RESOLUTION N0. 86-23 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Carmen & Council as a Whole <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CLEVELAND <br />INDIANS BECAUSE "THIS IS OU R TEAM.°" <br />WHEREASo the Cleveland Indians have been a vital asset of <br />the Greater Cleveland Area for over eighty (80) years; and <br />WHEREAS, there is a very real threat that if support for <br />major leauge baseball does not significantly improve in the immediate <br />future, the Cleveland Indians franchise will be moved to another City; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the move of the Cleveland Indians woulcl have an <br />adverse impact on all of the communities of the Greater Cleveland Area <br />and their citizens; and <br />WHEREAS, the combined support of fans, business, labor and <br />government is essential to the retention of major league baseball in <br />Greater Clevelanc7.; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />Section lo The Mayor and Council of Mayfield Village, <br />Ohio, urge the citizens of Mayfield Village and all communities in the <br />Greater Cleveland Area to support the Cleveland Indians by both <br />attending games and expressing their support of the team in letters <br />ancl calls to the Commissioner of Baseball, Peter Uberroth, and <br />American League Presiclent, Bobby Brown. <br />- Section 2. The Council further expresses its hope that <br />all of the legislative bodies and elected officials in the Greater <br />Cleveland Area will join with Mayfield Village in. voicing support to <br />keep the Cleveland Indians in Cleveland and to urge their citizens to <br />support the team. <br />Section 3. The Clerk of Council is hereby instructed to <br />forward copies of this Resolution to the Commissioner of Baseball, <br />Peter Uberroth, American League President Bobby Brown, Cleveland <br />Indians President Peter Bavasi and to the Clerks of Council for all <br />member communities of the Cuyahoga County Mayors and City Managers <br />Association. <br />Section 4. That the Council finds and determines that all <br />f ormal actions of this Council relating to the adoption of this <br />Resolution have been taken at open meetings of this Council; and that <br />deliberations of this Council and of its committees, resulting in such <br />formal action, took place in meetings open to the public, in <br />compliance with all statutory requirements including the requirements <br />of Section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised Code.
