ANA TIOSE RESPO~vSIIiL~ F€; PROJECT <br />MERCURY flN TN.E SUCCESS OI~ THE MAi~ivE'1 SPACE <br />FLI GIT OF 1'i-~E CA~'Ss:_LE 'tFRI :~r~SIIIP SEVEN" <br />WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Tohn ti. 71enn, <br />Jr., one of the team of astronauts trained for Project Mercury, <br />manned the Capsule Friendshii~ Seven. which successfully orbited <br />the earth three times; and <br />'~ti~rlE:~~FA.S, he is to be com~rended most highly <br />for his courage, skill and that devotion to duty which impelled <br />him to volunteer for this mission and literally to risk h_s <br />life to prove the efficiency and notent7al of space flight; and <br />t+Vi-IERE,AS, his successful flight was a c~~zlmination <br />of years of work by all of the people concerned witr. space aero- <br />nautics and partictalarly with Project Mercury; and <br />Wfi:EREAS, t3ze people of the City of North Olmsted, <br />Ohio, by and through its Cott~~cil and its City Officials, deem it <br />fitting; and proper that Lieutenant Colonel Glenn's service to his <br />country be formally acknowled~Yed and recognized. <br />NOW, 'tHEREFJRE, t3E IT RESOLVED by the ~=ouncil <br />of the `-ity of. North Olmsted, State of Ohio: <br />Section 1: That the City of North Olmsted, Ohio, and <br />its citizens hereby extend to Lieutenant Colonel Glenn their <br />heartfelt appreciation for his courage, resourcefulness, ski 11 and <br />devotion to the interests of the United. States of America i.n his <br />epic making orbit of the earth in the Capsule Friendship Seven, <br />Section 2: "That all of the many people devoted to the <br />development of space travel and st?ace exploration, especially those <br />identified with Project Mercury, be congratulated on the successful. <br />culmination of their years of scientific research. <br />Section 3: That the Clerk of Co~lncil be directed to <br />mail a certified Copy of this Resolution to Lieutenant Col.onel_ <br />,John H.
