Every officer authorized to direct or regulate traffic or to <br />m~ke arrests for violations of traffic regulations~ <br /> <br /> Private ROad or Driveway~ EVery way or place in private ownership and used for <br />vehicular travel by the owner and those having express or implied permission from the <br />owner but not by other persons. <br /> <br /> Railroad~ A carrier of persons or property operating upon rails placed princi- <br /> pally on a private right of way. <br /> <br /> Railroad Sign er Signal. Any sign, signal or device erected by the Director of <br /> Public Safety or by a railroad and intended to give notice of the presence of railroad <br /> tracks or the approach of a railroad train, <br /> <br /> Railroad Train. A Steam engine, electric or other~ motor, with or without cars <br />coupled thereto, operated by a railroad, <br /> <br /> Residence District~ The territory, not comprising a business district, fronting <br />on a street or highway, including the street or highway, where, for a distance of 300 <br />feet or more, the frontage is improved with residences, or residences and buildings <br />in use for business. <br /> <br /> Right of Way. The right of a vehicle, street car, trackless trolley or pedestrian <br />to proceed uninterruptedly in a lawful manner in the direction in which it or he is <br />moving in preference to another vehicle, street car, trackless trolley or pedestrian ap- <br />preaching from ,a dJ.fferent direction into its or his path. <br /> <br /> Roadway. That portion of a highway improved, designed, or ordinarily used for <br />vehicular travel including bridges and culVerts. <br /> <br /> Safety Zone. The area or space officially set apart within a roadway for the <br />exclusiVe use of pedestrians and which is protected or is so marked or indicated by <br />adequate signs as to be plainly visible at all times while set apart as such. <br /> <br /> School Bus. Every motor vehicle which is being operated exclusively for the <br />transportation of school children to or from a school session, or to or from a school <br />function, and which is marked on both front and rear with the words "school buss, in <br />plain lettering not less than six inches in height. <br /> <br /> Semi-Trailer° Every vehicle designed or used for carrying persons or property <br />with another and separate motor veD~cle so that in operation a part of its own weight <br />or that of its load, or beth, rests upon and is carried by another vehicle. <br /> <br /> Sidewalk. That portion of a street between the curb lines, er the lateral lines <br />of a roadway, and the adjacent property lines intended for the USe of pedestrians. <br /> <br /> State Route. Every highway which is designated with an official state route <br />number and so marked~ <br /> <br /> Street or Highway. The entire width between the boundary lines of every way open <br />to the use of the public as a thoroughfare for the purposeS of vehicular travel. <br /> <br /> Street Car. A car, other than a railroad train, for transporting persons or <br />property, operated upon rails, principally within a street o2 highway. <br /> <br /> Through Highway~ Every highway or portion thereof at the entrance to which <br />vehicular traffic from intersecting highways is required by law to stop before enter- <br />lng or crossing the same~ <br /> <br /> Trackless Trolley. Every car which collects its power from overhead electric <br />trolley wires and which is not operated upon rails or tracks, <br /> <br /> Traffic. Pedestrians, ridden or herded animals, vehicles, street cars, track- <br />less trolleys and other devices either singly or together while using any highway for <br />purposes of travel~ <br /> <br /> <br />
