district, semi-detached one or two family dwellings may <br />be constructed. Apartment houses may not be built in <br />terraces or as semi-detached buildings. Every apart- <br />ment house shall have a side yard along each lot line <br />other than a street line or a rear line. The least <br />dimension of the side yard shall not be less than four <br />(4) feet in a la district or less than one-sixth (1/6) <br />of the height of the building, whichever is the greater. <br />The least dimension of the side yard shall not be less <br />t~en eigt!.t (8) feet in a lb district or less than one- <br />sl~th (1/6) of the height of the building, which ever <br />is the greater. The side yard shall start from the <br />curb level~ provided, however, that the above provi- <br />sion shall not be applicable to A2a and A5 H4 area dis- <br />tricts, in a lb use district, but in such A2a and A5 <br />H4 area districts in, a lb use district, yards shall <br />be provided between each building and side lot line and <br />between buildings on the same lot in accord with the <br />following: <br /> <br />1. Definitions In order to provide for the planning <br />of one building on a lot and of buildings in groups on <br />the same lot to form open yards and courts which are <br />related to the use of the rooms within the dwellings, <br />the Following terms are defined: <br /> <br />a) A main wall - any exterior wall containing the <br />p~incipal window or windows of a living, dining or <br />sleeping room or rooms, and/or other windows, <br /> <br />b) A seeondarywall - an exterior wall, other than <br />almain wall, containing minor window or windows of <br />a dining or sleeping room, principal window or <br />windows of a kitchen or bath room, or a blank <br />surface o <br /> <br />c) Wall unit - each vertical plane of a building ~ <br />shall be considered as a separate wall in applying <br />thsse yard regulations. <br /> <br />d) Overlapping walls - those portions of the exter- <br />iorwall or walls which are directly opposite when <br />two buildings, parallel, or obliquely aligned within <br />45 degrees of parallel, face each other across an <br />open yard or space. <br /> <br />e) Required yards - the required yards shall be the <br />horizontal distance between parallel walls of a <br />building or between a wall and a lot line. <br /> <br />2. Schedule of Yard Requirements - The yards between a <br />building and a side lot line and the yards between <br />buildings on the same lot across an open yard or court <br />shall be not less than set forth in the following <br />schedule: <br /> <br />M__IN~MUM WIDTH O?
