Gaydos, Graber, ~uffman, <br />Kelley, Usher, Weudlin§ <br /> <br /> AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE to supplement the Administra- <br />tive Code by enacting a new Section 135.10 of the Codified <br />Ordinances of the City of Lakewood establishing an auxiliary <br />police unit within the police department of the City Of Lakewood <br />and providing for the regulation of auxiliary police officers. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The legislative authority of the City of <br />Lakewood ~ay establish, by ordinance, an auxiliary police unit <br />within the police department of the City of Lakewood, and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, This COuncil deems it to be in the best <br />interest of theCity to establish said auxiliary police unit and <br />provide for regulations thereof, and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, This ordinance ~Onstitutes an emergency <br />measure providing for the immediate.preservation of the public <br />health, safety and welfare and for the usual daily operation of <br />a municipal department; now, therefore, <br /> <br /> : BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, <br />sTATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That the Administrative Code of the <br />Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood be and it is hereby <br />supplemented by enacting new Section 135.10 to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 135.10 Auxiliary Police Unit <br /> <br />(a) ESTABLISHMENT. There is hereby created within <br />the Police Department of the City of Lakewood, an <br />auxiliary police unit, the members of which shall be <br />appointed by the Director of Public Safety. <br /> <br />(b) TERM OF SERVICE. Auxiliary police officers shall <br />serve so long as the Director of Public Safety may <br />direct, or until a resignation submitted by such <br />members shall be accepted by the Director of Public <br />Safety. <br /> <br />(c) QUALIFICATION OF MEMBERS. The members of the <br />auxiliary police unit shall be residents of the City <br />of Lakewood or be employed within the City of <br />Lakewood~ and may not be under the age of twenty-one <br />(21) years at the time of their appointment, and be <br />subject to such other requirements as provided by the <br />Rules and Regulations provided in Paragraph (e) of <br />this ordinance, providing, however, that the residency <br />and employment requirements may be waived by the <br />Director of Public Safety upon written application of <br />the commanding officer of the auxiliary police unit. <br /> <br />(d) CONTROL OF UNIT. The Chief of Police shall be <br />the commanding officer of the auxiliary police unit <br />and shall have control of the assignment, training, <br />stationing, and the direction of work of such unit. <br />The auxiliary police unit will have all police powers, <br />but shall perform only such police duties as assigned <br />by the Chief of Police and shall act only when in the <br />prescribed uniform. <br /> <br /> <br />
