PLEASE SUBSTITUTE FOR ORDINANCE 13-77 <br />PLACED ON FIRST READING MAY 16, 1977 <br /> <br />AND ON SECOND READING JUNE 6, 1977. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 13-77 BY: , <br /> <br />Messrs. Brockman, Magnotto, McBride, <br />Salmon, Sinagra, Usher <br /> <br /> AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE to amend paragraphs (a) and (b) of Section <br /> 769.08 of the Business Regulation Code of the Codified Ordinances of the City <br /> of Lakewood relating to taxicab far~, rates in the City of Lakewood. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the taxicab companies serving the Lakewood, Ohio area have <br />advised the City that by reason of increased costs and other factors it has <br />been determined by the companies that taxicab fare rates must be raised in <br />the City of Lakewood, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council has been advised that such request for rate <br />increases has also been made in the City of Cleveland and other areas of the <br />COunty, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council deems it to be in the best interest of the City <br />and its residents that taxicab fare rates be reasonably comparable throughout <br />the entire area served by taxicab companies, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Ordinance provic'es for the usual daily operation of a <br />municipal department and for the immediate preservation of the public safety <br />and welfare; now, t'herefore, <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That paragraphs (a) and (b) Of Section 769.08 of the <br />Business Regulation Code of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood <br />now reading as fdllows: <br /> <br />769.08 RATES OF FARE <br />~ (a) Metered Rates <br /> <br />(a) For the 1st one-sJ, xth mile or fraction thereof $0.80. <br />(b) For each succeeding one-third mile or fraction thereof $0.20. <br />(c) For each additional passenger for the entire trip $0.25. <br />(d) For each taxicab employed upon an hourly rate $6.00 per hour. <br />(e) In addition to the above rates, five cents ($0.05) may be <br /> added for the first one-sixth mile or fraction thereof, for <br /> each five cents ($0.05) increase in the!cost of gasoline for <br /> taxicabs, above forty cents ($0.40) per gallon. <br /> <br />For waiting time, as hereinafter defined, charges may be made at <br />the rate of not less than $4.20 per hour nor more %hah $6.03 per <br />hour. Waiting time is deemed to include the time when the taxicab <br />it not in motion, beginning at the place of arrival to which it has <br />been called, or the time consumed while standing at the direction of <br />~the passenger. ~'No charge shall be made for t~me lost because of the <br />inefficienc~ of the taxicab or its operator, or for time consumed by <br />premature response to t!~e passenger's order. <br /> <br />(b) Hourly and Flat Rate <br /> <br />Taxicabs may accept employment whereby the fare is to be computed <br />on an hourly rental basis or upon a flat rate of one dollar and <br />forty cents ($1.40) for any ride within the city. A charge of $0.25 <br />may be made for each additional passenger. <br /> <br />Five cents ($0.05) may be added to the flat rate of one dollar and <br />f~rty cents for any ride within the City, for each five cent ($.05) <br />increase in the cost of gaaoline for taxicabs, above forty cenus <br />($.40) per gallon. <br /> <br /> <br />
