ORDINANCE NO. 41-80 BY: <br /> <br />Brown, Chinnock, Gallagher, <br />Graham, McBride, Salmon, <br />Wendling <br /> <br /> AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE to amend paragraphs (a) and (b) of Section <br />769.08 of the Business Regulation Code of the Codified Ordinances of the City <br />of Lakewood relating to taxicab fare rates in the City of Lakewood. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the taxicab companies serving the Lakewood, Ohio area have <br />advised the City that in order to keep enough independent contractor drivers <br />on the streets, it is necessary to increase rates because of increased costs <br />and other factors, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council has been advised that a similar request for rate <br />increases has also been made in the City of Cleveland and other areas of the <br />County, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council deems it to be in the best interest of the City <br />and its residents that taxicab fare rates be reasonably comparable throughout <br />the entire area served by taxicab companies, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this ordinance provides for the usual daily operation of <br />a municipal department and for the immediate preservation of the public safety <br />and welfare; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That paragraphs (a) and (b) of Section 769.08 of~tbe ...... <br />Business Regulation Code of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood now <br />reading as follows: ............. <br /> <br />769.08 RATES OF FARE. <br /> <br />(a) <br /> <br />Metered Rates. <br />(1) For the first one-sixth mile o-r fraction thereof eighty <br /> cents (80¢). <br />(2) For each succeeding two-sevenths mile or fraction thereof <br /> twenty cents (20~). <br />(3) For each additional passenger for the entire trip twenty- <br /> five cents (25~). <br />(4) For each taxicab employed upon an hourly rate six dollars <br /> ($6.00) per hour. <br />(5) In addition to the above rates, five cents (5¢) may be <br /> added for the first one-sixth mile or fraction thereof, <br /> for each five cent (5¢) increase in the cost of gasoline <br /> for taxicabs, above forty cents (40¢) per gallon. <br /> <br /> For waiting time, as hereinafter defined, charges may be made at the <br />rate of not-less than four dollars and fifty cents ($4.50) per hour nor more <br />than six dollars ($6.00) per hour. Waiting time is deemed to include the ' <br />time when the taxicab is not in motion, beginning at the place of arrival <br />to which it has been called, or the time consumed while standing at the <br />direction of the passenger. No charge shall be made for time lost because <br />of the inefficiency of the taxicab or its operator, or for time consumed <br />by premature response to the passenger's order. <br /> <br /> (b) Hourly and Flat Rate. Taxicabs may accept employment whereby the <br />fare is to be computed on an hourly rental basis or upon a flat rate of one <br />dollar and sixty cents ($1.60) for any fide in the City. A charge of <br />twenty-five cents (25¢) may be made for each additional passenger. <br /> <br /> Five cents (5¢) may be added to the flat rate of one dollar and sixty <br />cents ($1.60) for any ride within the City, for each five cent (5¢) increase <br />in the cost of gasoline for taxicabs, above forty cents (40¢) per gallon. <br /> <br /> Taxicabs employed on the hourly basis shall operate within the City upon <br />the following schedule of rates; not less than four dollars and fifty cents <br />($4.50) per hour or fraction therefor the the first hour, nor more than <br />six dollars ($6.00) per hour, provided that charges for use in excess of <br />one hour shall be on the basis of one-sixth of an hour fractions of the <br />rate charged for the first full hour. <br /> <br /> <br />
