(d) A separate and independent building sewer shall be provided for <br />ever7 building; except under exceptional circumstances the Building <br />Co.~.~issioner may waive the provisions of this secitom. <br />(e) Old building sewers may be used in connection with new buildings <br />only when ~hey are found, on examination and test to meet all require- <br />ments of City codes and ordinances. <br /> <br /> (f) The alignment and materials of construction of building sewer, and <br />the methods to be used in excavating', placing of the pipe jointing, <br />test i~ ~ ~Gkfilling the trench, shall all conform to the require- <br />m~nts of the building and plumbing code or other applicable rules amd <br />regulations of the City of Lakewood. <br /> (g) The size and slope of the building sewer shall be subject to the <br /> approval of the City Engineer but in no event shall the diameter be <br /> less than four (4) inches. The slope of such 4-inch pipe shall not be <br /> less than one-fourtk (1/4) inch per foot. It shall be required that <br /> the service stub or wye connection and the building drain shall be un- <br /> covered and the differential elevation be determined before construction <br /> is begun. Where practicable, the building connection shall be laid on <br /> a uniform grade between those two points. <br /> (h) %rnenever possible the building sewer shall be brought to the <br /> building at an elevation below the basement floor. No building sewer <br /> shall be laid parallel to and within three (3) feet of any bearing wall, <br /> which might thereby be weakened. The depth shall be sufficient to afford <br /> protection from frost. The building sewer shall be laid at uniform grade <br /> and in straight alignment insofar as possible. Changes in direction shall <br /> be made only with properly curved pipe and fittings. <br /> (i) In all buildings in which any building drain is too low to permit <br /> gravity flow to the municipal sewer, wastewater carried by such drain <br /> shall be lifted by approved artificial means and discharged to the building <br /> sewer. <br /> (j) ~:o person shall make connection of roof downspouts, exterior founda- <br /> tion drains, areaway drains, or other sources of surface rUnoff or ground- <br /> water to a building sewer or building drain which in turn is connected <br /> directly or indirectly to a public sanitary sewer. <br /> (k) All building sewer connections must be made to the wye or riser <br /> provided for that purpose. If wye or riser is not available, connection <br /> shall be made suitable to the City Engineer. <br /> (1) The applicant for the building sewer permi~ shall notify the Building <br /> Cor~nlssioner when =he building sewer is. ready for inspection and connec- <br /> <br />tion To the municipal sewer. The connection shall be made under the <br />supervision of the Director of Public Works or his representative. <br />(m) All excavations for building sewer installations shall be adequately <br />guarded with barricades and lights so as to ~protect the public from <br />hazard. Streets, sidewalks, parkways and other public property dis- <br />turbed in the course of the work shall be restored in a manner satis- <br />factory To ~he municipality by the person making the installation. <br />SECTION 913.96: USE OF THE }~NICIPAL SEI.~RS. <br /> <br />(a) No person shall discharge or cause to be discharged any storm water, <br />surface wa~er, groundwater, roof runoff, subsurface drainage, uncon- <br />taminated cooling water, or unpolluted industrial process waters to any <br />sanitary sewer. <br />(b) Storm_ water and all other unpolluted drainage shall be discharged <br />to such sewers as are specifically designated as storm sewers, or to a <br />na=ural outlet approved by =he City Engineer. Industrial cooling water <br />or unpolluted process waters shall be discharged, on approval of the <br />City Engineer to a storm sewer or natural outlet. <br />(c) ~:o surface wa~er or ground water drainage system shall be connected <br />to any public sewers without prior approval of the City Engineer. Such <br />approval shall require the submittal of drawings to define the piping <br />plans, critical elevations, surface contours, where applicable, and <br />details of piping and drainage appurtenances. <br /> <br />-6- <br /> <br /> <br />
