PLEASE SUBSTITUTE FOR ORDINANCE NO. 113-05 <br />PLACED ON 1ST READING & REFERRED TO THE <br />COMMITTEE OF THEW HOLE 11/21/05, PLACED ON <br />2ND READING 12/5/05. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 113-o5 <br /> <br />FitzGErald, Madigan, Seelie. <br /> <br /> AN ORDINANCE to amend section 135.10, Auxiliary Police Unit, of the Lakewood <br />Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood for the purpose of lowering the age <br />requirement and removing the requirement that participants either live in the City of <br />Lakewood or work for the City of Lakewood. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, membership in the Lakewood Auxiliary Police Unit continues to <br />decrease placing a larger burden on sworn Officers to provide traffic and crowd control <br />at City events; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, removing certain restrictions on membership in the AuXiliary Police <br />Unit should lead to greater membership thereby allowing more sworn officers to be <br />made available to respond to resident calls during City events. Now therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO <br /> <br /> Section 1. That section 135.10, Auxiliary Police Unit, of the Codified Ordinances <br />of the City of Lakewood currently reading as follow: <br /> <br />135.10 AUXILIARY POLICE UNIT. <br /> <br />(a) Establishment, There is hereby created within the Police Department <br />an auxiliary police unit, the members of which shall be appointed by the <br />Director of Public Safety. <br /> <br />(b) Term of Service. An auxiliary police officer shall serve so long as the <br />Director of Public Safety may direct, or until a resignation submitted by a <br />member is accepted by the Director of Public Safety. <br /> <br />(c) Qualification of Members. The members of the auxiliary police unit <br />shall be residents of the City or be employed within the City, and may not <br />be under the age of twenty-one years at the time of their appointment, <br />and be subject to such other requirements as provided by the rules and <br />regulations provided in subsection (e) hereof; however, the residency and <br />employment requirements may be waived by the Director of Public Safety <br />upon written application of the commanding officer of the auxiliary police <br />unit. <br /> <br />(d) ... <br /> <br />shall be and is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />135.10 AUXILIARY POLICE UN1T. <br /> <br />(a) Establishment. There is hereby created within the Police Department <br />an auxiliaW police unit, the members of Which shall be appointed by the <br />Director of Public Safety. <br /> <br /> <br />
