AN ORDINANCE to amend Chapter 915, Water Rates, of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood for the purpose of increasing water rates, decrease the water customer service charge and to decrease the rate for those who qualify for the homestead exemption. WHEREAS, sufficient revenues are required to recover costs budgeted for the operations of the Water Distribution System, and WHEREAS, sufficient dollars are required to meet scheduled debt service costs, and and WHEREAS, sufficient dollars are required to replace and repair existing aged waterlines, WHEREAS, in order to offset the increases in the purchases water from the City of Cleveland to the City as well as the continuing general increases in the cost of operations, it is necessary for the City to increase the rates charged to its customers; and WHEREAS, extending a reduction for water rates to persons qualifying for Homestead exemption and decreasing the customer service charge will not greatly effect revenues; Now therefore, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO: Section 1. That Chapter 915, Water Rates, of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood currently reading as follows: -/ 915.01 ESTABLISHMENT OF RATES. The Director of Public Works is hereby authorized and directed to establish water rates charged monthly by the Lakewood Division of Water and Wastewater Collections as follows: (a) Effective March 1, 1996, or at such time rates established by the City of Cleveland Council reflect a rate increase to the City of Lakewood for water purchased, all water used during each one month billing period shall cost not more than two and sixty-six hundredths dollars ($2.66) per one hundred cubIc feet of water. (b) Effective January 1, 1997, all water used during each one month billing period shall cost not more than two and eighty-two hundredths dollars ($2.82) per one hundred cubic feet. (c) Effective January 1, 1998, all water used during each one month billing period shall cost not more than two and ninety-nine hundredths dollars ($2.99) per one hundred cubic feet. (d) Effective January 1, 1999, all water used during each one month billing period shall cost npt more than three and seventeen hundredths dollars ($3.17) per one hundred cubic teet. (e) Effective January 1, 2000, and thereafter, all water used during each one month billing period shall cost not more than three and thirty- seven hundredths dollars ($3.37) per one hundred cubic feet.
