(i) The kind, number and size of filters, including the square footage of the <br /> filter area in each unit; <br />0) Top capacity in gallons per minute of the recirculating system; <br />Ih) A description of chemical feeders for soda ash and alum; <br /> The type, kind and description of chlorinator; <br /> <br /> A description and plan of lighting facilities; <br /> The type, design ~nd location of the enclosing fence. <br /> <br /> 1721.15 PUBLIC POOLS: DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION <br />REQUIREMENTS, <br /> The Commissioner of Building Inspection shall not issue a permit to COnstruct or <br />approve the cOnstruction of any ~ublic swimming pool or any alteration, addition, <br />remodeling or other improvement thereto unless the following design and Construction <br />requirements are Observed, Public swimming poo s sha be constructed and maintained <br />in conformity with the following requirements, aQd for poOls already in existence the <br />Commissioner of Health and the Commissioner of Building ~nspection shall furnish the <br />owners with a program of improvements and additions which shall be carried out over a <br />fPoeriod not to exceed five years in order to comply with the requirements of this chapter <br /> r new pools: <br /> (a) IVtaterial. The water-containing surface of artificial swimming pools shall <br /> be light in color, impervious and provde a tight tank with smooth and <br /> easily cleaned surfaces. Sand or d rt bottoms are proh b ted. <br /> (b) Walls and Plarkings, The wa S of the pool shall be vertical. Conspicuous <br /> markings shall be provided at regu ar interva s showing the depth of the <br /> pool. Special markings for large and odd shaped pools shall be as <br /> prescribed by the Commissioner of Health, <br /> (c) Overflow Troughs and Skimmers. Each pool shall be equipped with an <br /> overflOw trough or skimmers. TroUghs shall be not ess than three inches <br /> deep, extending complete y around the perimeter of the pOol. ]~f skimmers <br /> are used, they shail be installed at the rate of one per 500 square feet of <br /> Surface area of the po01. <br /> (d) ~ply and Outlets. The pOOl shall :be equipped with water inlets <br /> and outlets of sufficient'size and proper location to provide a Uniform <br /> circulation of water in all parts of the pool Ail water inlets shall be located <br /> not less than one foot above the flood dm of the pool, or shall be <br /> provided with a vacuum brake sufficient in size to prevent backflow in the <br /> event of loWered pressure n the pub c water lines. All drainage of the <br /> (e) pOol shall be into a storm outlet only. <br /> ~Separate 5oace for Bathers and ~oectators. The des gn of the locker <br /> room, shower roOm and pool shall be such ,~ to provide proper routing of <br /> bathers and complete separation of bathers and spec~tors. <br /> (f) Heatinq_. All indoor pools which are to be used when the outside <br /> temperature is below sixty degrees Fahrenheit shall be provided with <br /> facilities for uniform and adequate 'heating of the pool room, dressing <br /> rooms and water in the pool <br /> (g) _Water in Po01. The water in the swimming pool shall meet the <br /> requirements of the Division of Public Health for a safe drinking water <br /> sUpply. <br /> (h) Rec~ulation_. For new pools provision shall be made for complete <br /> circulation of water through all parts of the pool. The system shall be <br /> equipped with a water .recrcuiat ng system of sufficient capacty to <br /> provide a complete turnover of water at least once in eight hours The <br /> installation of new pools of the "fill and draw" type shall not be permitted. <br /> A satisfactory recirculating System for the swimming pool shall be installed <br /> COnsisting of filters, circulating pumps, chemical dozing equipment (alum <br /> and alkali) or surge tank, float valve c0ntro on water supply, hair and lint <br /> catcher, chlorinator, indicator, recording and totalizing instrument, flow~ <br /> metersl pressure gauges and piping connections to inlets and outlets and <br /> all other necessary fixtures and connections. <br /> All equipment must be read ¥ accessible and ever,/pool shall be provided <br /> with necessary equiPment for the measurement of acidity or alkalinity and <br /> for residual determinations. The equipment room shall be satisfactorily <br /> located and adequately drained <br /> (i) 'Indicatinq, Recordina, Totalizina Instruments, Etc. When necessary, in <br /> the opinion of the CommissiOner of Health, indicating, recording and <br /> totalizing instruments, flow-meters or indicators and pressure gauges shall <br /> be installed at SucE points as may be designated by the Commissioner of <br /> Health. <br /> <br /> <br />
