dates for the office of mayor for the next term, and subject to further pro- <br />visions of this charter. <br />(b) Salary Recommendation. Council shall accept, reject, or modify the civ- <br />il service commission's recommendations made under Article Six within <br />go days of receiving them. Without any action by council within the go- <br />day period, the recommendations of the civil service commission with re- <br />spect to the mayor's salary shall become effective as if adopted by ordi- <br />nance or resolution under Section 2.8, but consistent with Section 3.5(c). <br />(c) Timing of Salary Change. No change in the salary for the mayor shall <br />take effect during the current term of the mayor. <br />3.6 GENERAL POWERS AND DUTIES OF MAYOR <br />The mayor shall be the chief conservator of the peace within the city; shall <br />supervise the administration of the affairs of the city; shall see that all <br />ordinances of the city are enforced; shall recommend to council for <br />adoption any measures the mayor may deem necessary or expedient; shall <br />with the director of finance keep council advised of the financial condition <br />and future needs of the city; shall prepare and submit any reports required <br />by council; and shall exercise powers and perform duties conferred upon <br />or required of the mayor by this charter, by ordinance or resolution of <br />council, or by general law. <br />3.7 MAYOR'S INVESTIGATION <br />The mayor or anyone appointed by the mayor may, without notice, cause <br />the affairs of any department or the conduct of any officer or employee to <br />be examined or investigated. <br />3.8 ACTING AND INTERIM MAYOR <br />(a) Temporary Absence. When the mayor is absent and inaccessible, or is <br />unable for any cause to perform the duties of the office of mayor, the <br />person designated by ordinance or resolution of council shall be the acting <br />mayor until the mayor resumes the office. <br />If the mayor does not resume the duties of the office within 6o days, <br />council shall declare the office vacant and appoint an interim mayor as <br />specified in Section 3.8(b). <br />(b) Vacancy in the Office of May.
