AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION memorializing the Board of Trustees <br />of cleveland State University to maintain the Lakewood ACademic <br />Center of Ohio State University after its transfer to Cleveland <br />State University and to continue the improvement and expansion <br />of these university facilities for the behefit of students in <br />this area. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, This Resolution constitutes an emergency measure <br />which is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public <br />peace, property, health and safety and for the further reason <br />that a decision relative to the future of the Lakewood Academic <br />Center will be made at an early date, and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS. ~t has come to the attention of this Council that <br />the Lakewood Academic Center of Ohio State University now located <br />at Lakewood High School will~be transferred to Cleveland State <br />University in the near future and that the Board of Trustees of <br />Cleveland State U~iverwity will be called upon to decide whether <br />the Lakewood branch is to be maintained or absorbed into the <br />downtown campus, and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, It is the opinion of this Council that the Lakewood <br />Academic Center should be maintained in its present location, <br />offering college training to young people of western Cleveland <br />and the western suburbs, and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, More than 650 students from this area are presently <br />receiving higher education at this facility, including 235 students <br />from the City of Lak~wood, and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the presence of this educational facility in Lakewood <br />not only tends to encourage the youth of this community to avail <br />themselves of higher education but also is of benefit to the <br />Lakewood Public School System in that many of its teachers are <br />invited to assist the Lakewood Academic Center; now. therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKE"WOOD, STATE <br />OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. This Council hereby urges the Board of Trustees <br />of Cleveland State University to give serious and favorable cc~n- <br />sideration to the maintenance of a university branch at Lakewood <br />High School and to make every effort to make sure that the edu- <br />cational opportunities offered at the Lakewood Academic Center <br />will be permitted~to continue. <br /> <br />- 1 - <br /> <br /> <br />
