The best chance of achieving these benefits is by investing the time and expertise into <br />establishing a comprehensive public art plan which will ensure that any future public art program <br />is sustainable in the future, more visible, and more attractive to potential funders. <br />3. Estimated expense (provide a range): <br />• Continue Working in 2018 to Create a Public Art Plan — The City will contribute <br />significant staff time. Ultimately, staff may need to partner with an outside expert once <br />the plan is further along in development. <br />• Public art projects <br />1. The City will plan to fund the costs of stipends and materials for at least one public art project <br />in 2018. <br />Estimated cost of stipends and materials - approximately $5,000 <br />Other Public Works related costs - TBD <br />2. The City will endeavor to facilitate one additional public art project through work with its <br />partners. The City is optimistic that such a plan can be funded through outside sources. The City <br />will contribute staff time and potentially other Public Works related contributions. <br />4. If applicable, summarize any proposals or discussions from the past that are related to <br />this priority. In 2015, Council established the Public Art Task Force with the intention of <br />creating a public art strategy for the City and to advise the City on the many benefits of public <br />art. Six residents with backgrounds in the arts came forward to serve on this Task Force which <br />met between December 2015 and September 2016. The Task Force identified nine <br />recommendations for moving forward with a Public Arts Program. <br />In 2016, Council used the Finance Committee budget priority process to elevate public art as a <br />City priority for 2017. In response, the Planning Department issued an RFP for a street mural on <br />a section of Rosewood Ave. That project is currently being finalized. <br />5.
