Provide a narrative description of your idea in 250 words or less. Attach a separate sheet
if necessary: This proposal calls for the construction of a full basketball court at Madison Park.
The court should be fully surrounded by a fence and include coating and striping. Issues of noise,
supervision, and space ought to be thoughtfully considered during the planning and design phase
of the project.
This full court would add to the existing network of courts, bringing the City closer to having
outdoor basketball available to residents of every age level and in every neighborhood. Currently
the City has six half courts at five locations (Lakewood Park, Wagar Park, Lincoln, Grant, &
Roosevelt). Residents have continually pointed out that these current courts do not fully enough
meet their needs.
2. Briefly explain how this will benefit the community:
The community will benefit from adding a free, accessible community space where people of all
ages and backgrounds can realize the social and health benefits of participating in physical
activity together.
3. Estimated expense (provide a range):
Public Works estimates that a full court at Madison Park will cost up to $80,000.
16
