2018 Budget Priority Submission Form
Finance Committee
Preferred due date: Wednesday August 29th
Final Due date: Wednesday September 5th
Title of Project or Policy Priority: "Study of Lakewood Transportation Needs"
Submitted by: Tristan Rader
City Departments to be involved: Planning, Finance, Public Works, Aging
Potential community partners: RTA, Clevelanders for Public Transit, Cleveland State, NOACA
Which of the Community Vision focus areas does your priority address? Check all that apply:
® Commercial Development ® Safety
❑ Housing © Mobility
®Community Wellness ❑Education & Culture
Which of the following City goals does your priority address? Check all that apply:
®Safe & Secure ❑x Vibrant Neighborhoods
® Economic Development
© Other Transportation
❑Sound Governance
1. Provide a narrative description of your idea in 250 words or less. Attach a separate sheet if necessary:
In light of cuts to RTA routes, I believe it is imperative that Lakewood City Government conduct a study that
examines the transit needs of its citizens. Then we should begin to plan to take whatever action such findings
would lead to in order to ensure that all residents have adequate transportation.
2. Briefly explain how this will benefit the community:
Reduction in frequency of bus lines due to funding has impacted just about every part of our city. With some
routes discontinued on some days, others with frequency reduced to hourly service, it is imperative we
understand the impact of these changes on our residents; particularly those who rely on public transit as a
primary mode of transportation. At the Westerly and South Westerly, I found there to be confusion regarding
what transportation is available throughout the city. In identifying the barriers to vital transit, I believe we can
start to get a clearer picture of the need.
3. Estimated expense (provide a range):
It would have to be calculated. Should a study be outsourced? Do we have the human resources and hours to
dedicate to a study of the transit impact within the planning dept.? Are there partners who have done some of
the research already or would fund part of the study we intend to do? These questions need to be answered
before a number range can be established.
004 Reso 9020 -18 -as substituted by Finance 10/1/18
