(pg. 99) Motion by Council President O'Leary, seconded by Vice President Anderson to adopt Resolution 9047-19. Discussion: Councilmember Litten recognized the role of Malvin's coaches, teammates, and guardians in his athletic success. He recognized the quality of Coath Toth's soccer program. President O'Leary remarked that the LHS alumni on Council take special pride in this accomplishment and congratulated Mr. Gblah and his supporters. On the motion: All members voted in favor. Motion passed. Resolution 9047-19 adopted. Coach Toth remarked on the LHS Soccer team's diversity and common passion for soccer. He expressed pride representing Lakewood at the All-American level. He credited teachers, administrators, the athletic director and the community of players and their families. He praised the futsol courts at Madison Park. 23. Communication from Councilmember George regarding paid parental leave policy for full-time City employees. (pg. 100) Motion by President O'Leary, seconded by Vice President Anderson to receive and file the communication. All members voted in favor. Motion passed. 24. ORDINANCE 01-19 — AN ORDINANCE to establish paid parental leave benefits for full-time employees of the City of Lakewood. (pg. 102) President O'Leary discussed the possible committees to which this could be referred and his rationale for each. At the request of Councilmember Anderson, Mayor Summers described the current paid leave options available to employees. Mayor Summers stated that the City's current offering are very generous and that no employee has been unable to have a fully funded maternity leave under the current structure. Councilmember George remarked that the issue is about equality and that men do not have to use their sick time to recover from childbirth.
