The state increased investment in <br /> public transit dollars, along with an increase in the earned income tax credit. There have been <br /> ongoing efforts in the budget to undermine local labor standards for construction projects. <br /> Senator Antonio voted in the affirmative to approve the budget, which is a 2 year $690 <br /> billion budget, when it left the state senate. She described some highlights of the budget, such <br /> as funding for health and human services, water quality initiatives, and affordable housing <br /> efforts. Lastly, she indicated that the state expects to have a capital budget next year, so she <br /> asked Council to keep in mind community artprojects in the future. <br /> Councilmembers questioned the Senator about extra revenue the state has been incurring <br /> from income and auto sales tax, along with updates on HB 6, which is a state proposal to <br /> bailout First Energy's nuclear power plants that several Councilmembers found problematic. <br /> Senator Antonio indicated that there are energy efficiency and technology requirements that <br /> can be inserted into the bill, however the legislature is considering bailing out the plants <br /> without consideration for those requirements.
