Provide a brief narrative description of your idea: <br />Lakewood has a vibrant and growing block club program. With 50 active clubs, 50 more that are less <br />than active, and with space and potential for nearly 150 total such groups city wide, we feel it is time <br />for the City to acquire the capacity and skill set to help this growing group of involved citizenry <br />flourish like never before. A trained community organizer serving in a permanent and part -time <br />capacity, is exactly what this task calls for. The City should be commended for the hard work many <br />have put in to get this program this far, now we feel strongly it is time to grow to the next level. <br />Please, find attached a draft of the job description. <br />2. Briefly explain how this will benefit the community: <br />To be clear, the objective is to grow and support the block club program. However, the goal is bigger and more <br />beneficial than that. This initiative aims facilitate the building of thousands of lasting relationships between neighbors, <br />community driven solutions to problems and improve two -way communication with residents and the City. <br />Additionally an organized community of neighbors looking out for one another has been proven to have positive <br />health outcomes in the events of blackouts and other extraordinary events. <br />3. Estimated expense (provide a range): <br />30,000 - 50,000 (We request Human Resources and Community Relations to help with budget detail <br />4. If applicable, describe any past proposals or discussions that are related to this priority. <br />Many block club meetings. A few block club captain meetings. Very popular idea with club leaders. <br />S.
