Community Organizer Proposed Job Description — City of Lakewood, OH <br />Part time / Permeant: up to 25 hours per week. Pay: $20.00 /h — please advise <br />Job Description — <br />• Conduct large numbers of one -on -one visits to help identify and recruit large <br />numbers of individuals in Lakewood neighborhoods, build relationships with <br />residents to help identify and build leaders, volunteers, and origination. <br />Help volunteers to build and maintain a multi- issue, long -term neighborhood <br />organization, including but not limited to: <br />• Neighborhood block clubs with: <br />• Leadership: Governing board / captain / co- captains <br />• Volunteers <br />• Working groups to research and find solutions to neighborhood issues <br />• Other types of groups that focus on: <br />• Neighborhood safety. <br />• Volunteer work and advocacy. <br />• Resiliency and rapid response to neighborhood issues. <br />Assist block leadership and volunteers in the process of community organizing: <br />• Conducting a listening process in order to identify neighborhood themes and <br />engage individuals /clubs to address these same themes. <br />• Doing research to find potential solutions to neighborhood themes. <br />• Mobilize large numbers of individuals and organizations to solve problems <br />with either: <br />• Neighborhood based solutions, or <br />• Identify approach and partners who may assist in solving problem <br />commonly with partners (City, schools, police, businesses, etc.) <br />Conduct trainings for local volunteers on such themes as: <br />• how to do one -on -one visits, <br />• how to do a listening process, <br />• how to research and solve neighborhood problems, negotiating, mediating, <br />• how to lead an effective meeting, etc. <br />Share information and facility two -way dialogues with neighborhood groups and the <br />City of Lakewood by: <br />• Attending block clubs and other community events. <br />• Sending regular email updates. <br />• Working with the community relations /communication department to have a <br />presence at city functions, and on social media. <br />Fundraising and administration <br />• Grant writing <br />• Seek capacity building opportunities. <br />• Work with local business, non - profits and other organizations to build <br />partnerships. <br />• Help developed community programs. <br />• Recommend to and advise superiors on ways to improve or grow Lakewood's <br />community engagement strategy. <br />017 <br />
