B. Is discharged for just and proper cause. <br /> C. Is laid off for a period of more than twenty-four(24) consecutive months. <br /> D. Fails to report to work when recalled from layoff within ten (10) working days from the <br /> date on which the City sends the employee notice by registered mail to the employee's last <br /> known address as shown on the City's records. <br /> E. Is absent without leave for three (3) or more working days,unless an excuse for absence is <br /> accepted, which shall not be unreasonably denied. <br /> ARTICLE 13 <br /> HOURS OF WORK <br /> 13.01 The workday for a full-time Corrections Officer shall consist of eight (8) regularly <br /> scheduled, consecutive hours during a twenty four (24) hour period of time that begins with the <br /> start of the employee's regularly scheduled shift,which includes a thirty(30)minute lunch period. <br /> During such lunch period, with the permission of the shift commander, which will not be <br /> unreasonably denied, Corrections Officers shall be allowed to leave the building for the express <br /> purpose of obtaining a food order and for no other purpose. If transportation is necessary, it must <br /> be privately owned. The lunch period shall not be extended. Lunch is to be eaten outside of the j ail <br /> area. The workweek shall commence at 12:01 a.m., on Sunday, and end at midnight, Saturday. <br /> This section shall not be construed as a guarantee of hours of work per day or per week, and the <br /> City reserves the right to establish and change hours of work, shifts and schedule hours,provided <br /> that this section shall not be construed to give the City the right to reduce the workweek below <br /> forty (40) hours per week for any full-time hourly employee. <br /> 13.02 All employees shall be allowed not less than thirty (30) uninterrupted minutes for a <br /> scheduled lunch period, except for emergencies or other mutually agreed upon schedules. <br /> 13.03 There shall be two (2) fifteen (15) minute rest periods on each shift, each workday. The <br /> rest periods, to the extent practicable, will be scheduled during the middle two (2) hours of each <br /> shift, but they may not be scheduled immediately before or after the meal period or at the start or <br /> end of a shift unless requested by the employee and agreed to by the City. Additionally, employees <br /> working overtime shall be entitled to a fifteen (15) minute break after two (2) hours of overtime. <br /> 13.04 Notice of Shift Change <br /> Any changes in shift scheduling shall be provided at least seventy-two (72) hours in advance of <br /> the schedule change, except in an emergency or unscheduled absence situation. <br /> 13.05 Posting of Schedules <br /> Schedules shall be posted for the next month on the 201h of the preceding month. <br /> 13.06 Shift Selection <br /> 8 <br />
