Councilmember Kepple provided the following report:
The ADA Task Force met the third Thursday in June. We had myself, Chief Storey, Melissa
Garrett and Mike Coletta there to talk about the report-a-problem feature on the website and
the potential to add the ADA accessibility issues to that. We worked through some
technological challenges to get that accomplished and that is on the website as of July 1st.
So, if you have anyone in the community that reports an accessibility issue on public city
property, they can report it there using the report-a-problem feature. We also discussed the
ADA transition plan RFP which has been posted. The deadline is on or around mid-July.
This would bring in a consultant to help us go through city properties and assess the need to
update them as part of our ADA transition plan that is required by law, but Lakewood is
going above to get this done quickly and is being cognizant of that. We were also in
discussion with Planning and Development about finding public or grant dollars to use for
private business owners to bring their properties into ADA compliance. Michelle Nochta will
replace John Storey as the City Hall liaison and she is going to be taking over as ADA
coordinator and is going through intensive training for that. Also, City Hall employees are
engaging in their first ADA training on Friday July 9th, so all of our staff is aware of ADA
issues and providing excellent service.
Motion by Councilmember Kepple, seconded by President O'Malley to receive and file that
report.
Discussion: Council discussed including Council in the upcoming ADA training.
On the motion: All members voted in favor. Motion passed.
16. Communication from President O'Malley regarding Council appointments to the Public
Art Advisory Board. (pg. 080)
Motion by President O'Malley, seconded by Vice President Litten to receive and file the
communication. All members voted in favor. Motion passed.
17. RESOLUTION 2021-34 - A RESOLUTION to take effect immediately provided it
receives the affirmative vote of at least two thirds of the members of Council, or
otherwise to take effect and be in force after the earliest period allowed by law,
appointing and to the Public Art Advisory Board.
(pg. 081)
Motion by President O'Malley, seconded by Vice President Litten to refer Resolution 2021-
34 to Committee of the Whole.
