They asked for citizen review of the project and more <br /> professional input. <br /> President O'Malley stated he will follow up and discuss the matter with the administration. <br /> Mayor George asked that they send over their information and stated a desire to involve <br /> experts in the process. She added that the administration is willing to make changes to ensure <br /> the project is successful into the future. Councilmembers acknowledge other LASWAB <br /> members in the room and cited their volunteer expertise as a way the city can make money. <br /> Joanne Ritschel — 1257 Arlington — Ms. Ritschel expressed concern regarding the plans for <br /> Foster Pool. She reviewed the plan rollout and noted how it can be improved. She expressed <br /> a desire for restoration and more focus groups to determine what residents want at the pool. <br /> Bob Sedlak — 1257 Arlington — Mr. Sedlak reviewed his background as a 40-year resident <br /> and Lakewood High School swim coach. He asked to preserve the footprint of the 50-meter <br /> pool with 10 lanes. He expressed a desire to know where the money is coming from to cover <br /> the cost of the pool. He added that he wants to ensure there is enough lap swimming during <br /> the day for adults. Lastly, he asked about plans for Madison pool. <br /> Mayor George indicated that the pool is part of the capital project budget and that the city <br /> may be able to use some ARPA money to pay for it as well. They are also currently seeking <br /> grant opportunities. <br /> Director Leininger highlighted the multiple feedback opportunities, citing two online surveys <br /> and two on-site public meetings. People have also emailed and called the department with <br /> their input. He noted that no plans are set in stone. However, the pool is at the end of its <br /> useful life and that the community has asked for improvements to it over the years. There <br /> will be more opportunities for public engagement on the project. <br /> Mayor George added that the pool leaks 1 million gallons of water per year. The updated <br /> design has up to 6 swim lanes now. There are no plans to close Madison Pool, and the mayor <br /> expressed a desire to update it at some point. <br /> Director Leininger indicated that the next steps are to finalize the design and present it to the <br /> Planning Commission and Architectural Board of Review. The project will be discussed as <br /> part of the city budget process. Construction is scheduled to start at the close of pool season <br /> in late summer 2022. Mayor George indicated that different groups may not be 100% <br /> satisfied because its been a balancing act of interests. President O'Malley added that pool <br /> financing will be discussed during budget hearings, at the Planning Commission, <br /> Architectural Board of Review and at Council meetings. <br /> ""ANNOUNCEMENTS"" <br /> Human Services Director Gelsomino announced the news that the former Lakewood City <br /> Schools assistant superintendent suddenly passed away. <br /> 11 <br />
