Refuse & Recycling Facility and Animal Shelter <br /> Engineer Papke provided updates on the above facilities. Recycling Center will be under <br /> construction in 2022. Incinerator will be demolished and there will be a new stockpile yard. The <br /> animal shelter will be relocated and rebuilt in 2024. CSO 052 storage tank will begin in 2025. He <br /> discussed plans for EV chargers at the facilities and solar panels. <br /> Engineer Papke briefly discussed the Engineering Department projects planned for 2022 and <br /> listed on the attached presentation. <br /> Councilmember Bullock reported resident feedback asking for beautification and signage at the <br /> Lakewood Hospital site. <br /> Assistant Director Milius responded that the previous signs were costly and were wind damaged <br /> pretty quickly. The city will research signage that can withstand the wind. <br /> Fleet Division <br /> Fleet Division Manager James Holman discussed his staff of 8 and the 600 pieces of equipment <br /> that they collectively manage. He summarized efficiencies that he pioneered over the past few <br /> years that continue to benefit the department. He reported that the division ordered its first hybrid <br /> police vehicle in 2019 and now it has 6. Five more are on order and hope to be received by <br /> January 2022. The division intends to continue to invest in hybrids and to research other electric <br /> vehicle options. He reported that fully electric trucks and heavy-duty equipment are a niche <br /> market and initial costs are high. The city would like to use a grant to supplement the costs. <br /> Director Ducu added that the Fleet Division is planning to install new EV chargers for its <br /> hybrid/electric fleet. He added that the division is looking into acquiring some electric vehicles <br /> through the Enterprise Lease program in order to try before buying. <br /> Councilmember Bullock encouraged Public Works to prepare to compete for new federal dollars <br /> for hybrid/electric infrastructure that will soon become available through a new infrastructure <br /> bill. <br /> Councilmember Rader asked for the comprehensive budget document to be posted online. <br /> Director Ducu thanked Council, the mayor, department colleagues and other directors for their <br /> support and collaboration <br /> Finance Committee adjourned at 7:47 p.m. <br /> 4 <br />
