Yeas: Bullock, Kepple, Litten, O'Malley, Rader, Shachner
Nays: none
Motion by President O'Malley, seconded by Vice President Litten to adopt resolution 2021-
39 as amended. A roll call vote was conducted as follows:
Yeas: Bullock, Kepple, Litten, O'Malley, Rader, Shachner
Nays: none
Motion passed. Resolution 2021-39 adopted as amended.
25. Report from Councilmember Kepple regarding Community Recreation and Education
Commission meeting held November 30, 2021. (to be provided)
Councilmember Kepple provided the following report:
On November 30, I had the opportunity to attend the Community Recreation
and Education Commission in Vice President Litten's stead. Assistant
Superintendent Dr. Christine Palumbo presented Coordinator Leslie Favre
Krogman's report that provided registration numbers for aquatics, athletics,
and programs. The commissioners expressed that while participation numbers
were generally encouraging, there was concern about the significantly low
number of Srh and 6th grade girls registered for basketball.
The commission continued discussion about potential placement of a bench to
memorialize former commissioners Clifford Burkhart and Bruce Giberson who
both passed away this year.
With the end of the year approaching, CREC will hold a special meeting this
month to select their leadership for 2022. There was also discussion of
soliciting applications for the new sub-commission and committee structure
established by the CREC by-laws recently approved by the Board ofEducation.
With the new by-laws establishing committee and sub-commission structure,
much of the commission's conversation seemed to revolve around mission and
vision, so I asked where I could find the strategic plan for the Lakewood
Community Recreation and Education Department. Coordinator Favre
Krogman followed up with me in an email that the Lakewood City School
District will be undergoing a strategic plan process that will include the
Recreation Department, and that they "anticipate gathering feedback from
staff, community members and officials to use towards this endeavor".
Motion by Councilmember Kepple, seconded by President O'Malley to receive and file the
report.
8
