MINUTES OF COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE <br /> May 31, 2022 <br /> Auditorium <br /> Present: Councilmembers Baker, Bullock(remote), Kepple, Litten (Chair), Rader (remote), <br /> Shachner <br /> Also Present: Law Director Corrigan, several members of the public, and Clerk Bach taking <br /> minutes <br /> Call to Order: 6:05 p.m. <br /> Interviews for the office of Member of Council,Ward 4 of Lakewood City Council. <br /> Cindy Marx Interview <br /> Ms. Marx delivered an opening statement that elaborated on her vision of service to the ward, the <br /> unique perspective that she would bring, and the priorities that she would pursue. <br /> In response to a question, Ms. Marx addressed how she would equitably and effectively represent <br /> the entire ward. She explained that as an at-large member, she demonstrated an ability to <br /> represent residents of all backgrounds. She discussed the challenges that the ward faces and how <br /> she addressed them and represented all residents when she was on council. <br /> In response to a question, Ms. Marx addressed sustainability and what she would do to promote <br /> these efforts. Ms. Marx applauded all that the City is currently doing and expressed support for <br /> those efforts. She expressed interest in pursuing city-wide composting. She spoke about her <br /> leadership to put forward the backyard hens legislation. <br /> In response to a question, Ms. Marx discussed the diversity of the population. She spoke about <br /> her work on the Grow Lakewood Task Force in 2005 and the changes that the community has <br /> experienced over the years. She expressed a commitment to equitably representing the different <br /> communities within Ward 4 and addressing their needs. <br /> In response to a question, Ms. Marx stated that she intends to run for office next year whether <br /> appointed or not. She added that after serving one term, she was just beginning to feel confident <br /> in her abilities as an elected official. She discussed some of the valuable qualities that she would <br /> bring to the role and acknowledged that she could improve her understanding of city finances. <br /> In response to a question, Ms. Marx described her workstyle as collaborative. She discussed how <br /> this work style was effective when she worked with Director Gelsomino and landlords to help <br /> address bedbugs in the community. She further spoke about her advocacy for neighborhood <br /> issues such as tree planting and stump grinding and that overall, she is not afraid to take a stand <br /> for her beliefs, while maintaining an open mind. <br /> In response to a question, Ms. Marx stated that she was naive to certain things when she first <br /> started out on Council. As she grew into her service, she became a good listener and empowered <br /> 1 <br />
