She expressed regret that the Lakewood Hospital <br /> site has not been developed in 7 years and committed to working toward a high-quality <br /> development. She questioned the current amount of proposed tax abatement for the project. She <br /> committed to communicating more with residents. <br /> Donna Taylor-Kolis Interview <br /> Ms. Taylor-Kolis delivered an opening statement in which she declared her intention not to run, <br /> if selected for the position of Ward 4 Councilmember. She stated that she is a resident of the city <br /> for 37 years and a resident of Ward 4 for 6 years. She expressed her desire to see the city <br /> maintain its good work and her intentions to canvas and survey the ward in order to "meet people <br /> where they are." She spoke about her leadership role in a regional sports organization. <br /> In response to a question, Ms. Taylor-Kolis stated that she would encourage the formation of <br /> block clubs as a way to equitable represent the ward. She noted that the Ward has only a few <br /> block clubs. She also pointed out that residents may not know how to access city services and <br /> that she would work collaboratively with residents to bridge that gap. She spoke about the <br /> diversity of the ward, noting that Harison Elementary is 51%non-white. She also mentioned <br /> crime and low voter turnout. <br /> In response to a question, Ms. Taylor-Kolis addressed sustainability. While she acknowledged <br /> that she could not be Council's go-to policy person on sustainability, she offered ideas for <br /> engaging the public on the issue and discussed her background in science that she believed <br /> would be helpful. <br /> In response to a question, Ms. Taylor-Kolis identified the achievement gap at Harrison <br /> Elementary as one of the ward's unique challenges. She proposed partnerships between the city <br /> and the school district to provide more assistance to students and families. <br /> In response to a question, Ms. Taylor-Kolis addressed what kind of outreach she would do as a <br /> ward councilmember. She remarked that she would focus on reaching renters,providing <br /> resources and a listening ear to residents. She expressed an interest in collecting information <br /> about the needs of the ward. She described past professional roles and how they taught her <br /> important lessons on consensus building, listening and critical thinking. <br /> In response to a question, Ms. Taylor-Kolis explained that from her experience working on <br /> campaigns and advising councilmembers that she has a good handle on the role of Council. <br /> However, she acknowledged that she could improve her understanding of Council's relationship <br /> with the city workforce. <br /> In response to a question, Ms. Taylor-Kolis discussed her work style as cooperative. She <br /> described herself as a good listener and as someone who can set aside her personal preferences <br /> and opinions when the outcome affects others. <br /> 2 <br />
