He stated he is no stranger to <br /> holding developers accountable per strong development agreements, noting the importance of a <br /> project that works for all members of Lakewood. <br /> Councilmember Rader asked Mr. Schneider he would use his experience to help Lakewood reach <br /> its sustainability goals. Mr. Schneider stated he recently helped two communities access <br /> Cuyahoga County's urban tree canopy program. He added that upgrading city sewer and water <br /> infrastructure would serve as a key in improving sustainability. <br /> Councilmember Baker inquired what unique challenges Ward 4 faces. Mr. Schneider stated that <br /> affordability and safety are two big issues he's heard from people while knocking on their doors. <br /> He spoke to how Cleveland's police policies could affect Lakewood and how maintaining <br /> Lakewood's affordability can contribute to the city's vibrancy and diversity. <br /> Based on his previous campaign experience, Vice President Kepple asked how Mr. Schneider <br /> reached and spoke to residents. He cited his time spent in the most recent campaign for At-Large <br /> Council seats knocking on doors and living in a large building on the Gold Coast, which <br /> provides him the opportunity to interact with his neighbors. He added that through his law <br /> practice, volunteer work with victims of domestic abuse, and time spent on the Citizens Advisory <br /> Committee, that he has a good understanding of what sort of services governments can provide <br /> to individuals. <br /> President Litten asked whether Mr. Schneider would run for the seat regardless of whether he <br /> was appointed or not, and what sort of issues he sees Council having to confront over the next <br /> several years. He stated he would run for office, appointed or otherwise. Mr. Schneider noted <br /> that in his service as a Law Director, he often calls on Lakewood being a model to look to on <br /> matters of legislation. He stated that addressing EPA mandates regarding the sewer/water <br /> infrastructure will be a fundamental issue, along with development of the former hospital site.
