Councilmember Marx recalled when Roe v. Wade was passed in 1973. She expressed great <br /> disappointment that it has been overturned. She encouraged everyone to vote in the mid-terms to <br /> ensure that reasonable people are appointed as judges. <br /> Councilmember Baker remarked that the decision was unprecedented in that it takes away <br /> individual rights and now calls many other personal rights into question. He stated that he is <br /> proud to support the resolution and to be part of Council. <br /> Councilmember Bullock remarked on the huge impact this decision will have on society on <br /> many levels and expressed concern about the role back of other rights. He stated his belief that a <br /> policy, such as this, that is unsupported by the people will not stand and that ultimately the will <br /> of the people will prevail. <br /> Public Comment: <br /> Cindy Strebig of Baxterly Ave. expressed support for the resolution and expressed anger about <br /> the reversal of Roe v. Wade. She remarked that the decision will not end abortion, but only safe <br /> and legal abortion. She stated that the decision will disproportionately impact the poor. <br /> Hannah Servedio of Pro Choice Ohio expressed support for the resolution. She remarked that the <br /> reversal of Roe v. Wade has had an immediate impact on those seeking abortion care, causing <br /> confusion and chaos for patients. She remarked on the disproportionate impact of the Supreme <br /> Court decision on those who can not afford to travel out of state for a needed abortion. <br /> Julia Toke of Parkwood Ave. expressed support for the resolution. She shared the life-changing <br /> impact of abortion on her life and balked at the idea that abortion, or any personal health decision <br /> should be questioned or restricted. <br /> Caitlin Magner of W. Shore Court expressed support for the resolution. She condemned the <br /> reversal of Roe v. Wade as an effort to control women, deny their autonomy and to perpetuate a <br /> cycle of poverty. She pointed to the 16,000 Ohio children currently in the foster care system, <br /> many of whom have experienced abuse or neglect and expressed concern that these problems <br /> will only increase. <br /> Allison Bates of Lakeland spoke in support of the resolution. She expressed growing anger about <br /> the threats to women's rights and the state of the world. She asked what additional steps can be <br /> taken to create change. <br /> Nancy Way of W. 138 ' Street in Cleveland spoke in support of the resolution and expressed <br /> hope that the City of Cleveland will make a similar statement. <br /> Andrea Gayle of Waterbury Rd. spoke in support of the resolution and expressed disbelief about <br /> the reversal of Roe v. Wade. She expressed her commitment to fighting to regain reproductive <br /> rights. <br /> 2 <br />
