Educating folks and increasing signage would be priorities. The second element we discussed was reducing barriers to paid parental leave for our employees. That ordinance was referred positively out of committee. This would reduce the requirement of 12 months of employment prior to eligibility for paid parental leave for the birth parents and the non-birth parents. ORDINANCE 19-2022 - AN ORDINANCE to take effect immediately provided it receives the affirmative vote of at least five (5) members of Council, or otherwise to take effect and be in force after the earliest period allowed by law, amending Section 149.25 Paid Parental Leave and Childbirth Leave of the Lakewood Codified Ordinances to remove the eligibility requirement of twelve or more months of service with the City of Lakewood. Discussion: Councilmember Marx asked claming questions on the benefits offered in the legislation. Director Dillinger indicated that all parents are provided 2 weeks ofpaid parental leave, and a birthing parent would be eligible for 12 weeks of leave. Councilmember Shachner thanked the administration for opening up the benefit. Mayor George spoke of the importance of the benefit. On the motion: All members in favor. Motion passed.
