shall have the sole discretion to dismiss the employee without recourse to the grievance <br />procedure or to any Civil Service appeal. <br />Where the City has paid for an employee's peace officer training, an employee resigning <br />from the City within the first three (3) years of employment is required to reimburse the City for <br />such payments. <br />8.05 All employees promoted to a higher rank are required to serve a probationary period of <br />one (1) year. During this period, the City shall have the sole discretion to demote such employee <br />to their previous rank without the employee having any recourse to the grievance procedure or to <br />any Civil Service appeal. <br />8.06 If an employee is off work due to illness or injury in excess of ten (10) days during the <br />probationary period, the probationary period is automatically extended by the number of days <br />off. <br />8.07 Years of service, for purposes of promotion, shall be defined as years of service only with <br />the Lakewood Division of Police. <br />ARTICLE 9 WAGES <br />9.01 Effective January 1, 2023, all Patrol Officers Grade I shall receive a three percent (3%) <br />wage increase on base wages. <br />9.02 Effective January 1, 2024, all Patrol Officers Grade 1 shall receive a three percent (3%) <br />wage increase. <br />9.03 Effective January 1, 2025, all Patrol Officers Grade 1 shall receive a three percent (30/0) <br />wage increase. <br />9.04 Effective March 1, 2021, Patrol Officers hired through the City of Lakewood Civil <br />Service patrol officer lateral process shall be placed in the appropriate pay grade based on prior <br />full-time patrol officer Civil Service experience. For every two (2) years (not to exceed six (6) <br />years) of prior full-time patrol officer Civil Service experience the lateral patrol officer has, (as <br />verified through the background process) shall receive one (1) year (not to exceed three (3) <br />years) of credit with the City of Lakewood police department for wage purposes only. <br />9.05 For wage rate breakdown see Appendix A. <br />9.06 Proficiency Pay <br />The City will provide a stipend of $2,400.00 to all full time employees of the Lakewood Division <br />of Police for firearms and body -worn camera proficiencies paid in the first pay of each year of <br />the Agreement. <br />
