Assistant Director Jaissle expressed support for this proposal, which was developed in <br /> partnership with Human Services. She indicated that the program is projected to fall $3,875 short <br /> of funds this year and that an additional $10,000 would help to maintain its existing benefits to <br /> qualifying families. There are currently 17 families receiving the scholarship. <br /> Public WiFi Expansion <br /> Vice President Kepple introduced the proposal to expand free wife from 5 city parks to all of the <br /> city's parks. She spoke about the importance of equitable wife accessibility. <br /> Chief Information Officer Coletta described the steps that his team has taken to price out this <br /> proposal and to evaluate the challenges and possibilities. He noted that this project overlaps with <br /> another city initiative to install additional police cameras in some of these locations. He <br /> cautioned that adding wifi to all parks would increase the city's monthly internet costs and that <br /> the ongoing maintenance costs with third party vendors are not entirely known. He noted that <br /> replacing wifi at the 5 existing parks is a top priority for 2023. <br /> Vice President Kepple and the committee discussed the potential need to prioritize certain parks. <br /> Vice President Kepple expressed interest in expanding service to areas that currently lack public <br /> wifi nearby. <br /> Councilmember Bullock expressed strong support for the proposal and spoke to the importance <br /> of wifi at Wagar Park because of the variety of neighborhoods it serves. He noted that wifi <br /> currently doesn't reach the entire park. He suggested Roosevelt Elementary as a possible wifi <br /> location to serve that neighborhood. <br /> Expanding Concessions in Lakewood Park <br /> Councilmember Bullock explained that this proposal came about as a result of recent discussions <br /> within Finance Committee regarding Lakewood Park concessions. He proposed the idea of a <br /> mobile food cart that could expand concessions to other areas of the park such as the band shell <br /> and solstice steps. He noted that the cart could be used at special events or on high volume park <br /> days. In response to questions, he clarified that he is not proposing a fuel-powered vehicle and <br /> that more details would need to be worked out between the city and HELP Foundation <br /> The committee and Director Gordon discussed the park's past experience with a mobile food <br /> cart. Councilmember Bullock relayed that HELP Foundation is willing to take a fresh look at the <br /> idea of a cart. <br /> Committee of the Whole adjourned at 7:29 p.m. <br /> 4 <br />
