LakewoodAlive will not completely rely on the City, and that there has been community support for the <br /> organization. Vice President Kepple noted that most of LakewoodAlive's funding for its projects come <br /> from sources other than ABPA. <br /> Vice President Kepple clarified with Director Urbanek that LakewoodAlive is in charge of installing their <br /> own Aging in Place equipment within the homes. <br /> Councilmember Bullock shared his support for the Aging in Place program and said that he will offer at <br /> least$19,000 for funding. <br /> Councilmember Bullock asked about LakewoodAlive's openness to different types of vehicles. He <br /> suggested the use of an electric vehicle. Director Andrews said that he would be happy to explore vehicle <br /> options. <br /> President Litten asked if the funding requested is enough. Director Urbanek explained that additional <br /> revenue can be generated by matching grants and finding additional funding to maximize dollars. <br /> Councilmember Baker asked how much money LakewoodAlive currently spends for the Aging in Place <br /> program and questioned if people have been turned away because of funding. Director Urbanek explained <br /> that no one has been turned away,but the program has not been advertised fully. The potential funding <br /> will maximize the program to allow for an increase in clients. <br /> LakewoodAlive Property Investment Application <br /> Director Andrews spoke about the potential for LakewoodAlive to increase revenue by purchasing <br /> property for use as a headquarters. He gave an overview of the refugees and seniors that LakewoodAlive <br /> has worked with and described the organization's growth in size and programmatic capacity. The plan for <br /> the potential property would be to renovate the office and lease out the first and second floor for use by <br /> other organizations. Director Andrews shared the benefits of the potential office location and work <br /> environment. <br /> Director Urbanek explained that the requested $200,000 would enable LakewoodAlive to renovate the <br /> vacant Youth Services building and allow for modernization and versatility within the space. She <br /> mentioned that the funds would be long lasting because LakewoodAlive could manage the building itself. <br /> President Litten mentioned that a decision would not be made tonight about which organization is chosen <br /> to purchase the building. <br /> Councilmember Rader asked if the $200,000 requested would cover the full cost of the renovations listed. <br /> Director Urbanek explained that the funds would cover the full cost and LakewoodAlive's utilization of <br /> the funds would allow for no mortgage or debt. <br /> President Litten asked about a potential plan if the renovations were not fully funded. Director Urbanek <br /> shared that the debt service would be manageable and that an alternate plan would be to borrow funds <br /> with a 5%downpayment. <br /> Councilmember Shachner asked how the space would provide services to Lakewood residents. Director <br /> Urbanek responded, explaining the increased visibility that the space would provide for LakewoodAlive. <br /> She explained that residents and small businesses would be able to find the building easily on their own, <br /> and the property could become a community space.
