Councilmember Bullock shared his support for LakewoodAlive's plans regardless of which building they <br /> purchase. He also spoke of the potential use of other city funds to support LakewoodAlive. <br /> Director Andrews spoke about the work done with landlords to learn about practices like green leasing to <br /> support tenants. <br /> Vice President Kepple clarified with Director Urbanek that the $15,000 requested for the Know Your <br /> Home workshop would not overlap with this renovations plan. <br /> Councilmember Baker asked if there are any other property plans if LakewoodAlive does not get selected <br /> by the city to purchase the Youth Services building. Director Andrews explained that Lakewood Alive <br /> would look for other opportunities to acquire a new space. <br /> Director Leminger gave an update regarding the available space. He mentioned the new availability of a <br /> building that could potentially solve the issue. He mentioned that a recommendation to City Council will <br /> be provided early next week. <br /> Lakewood Community Services Center <br /> Executive Director of Lakewood Community Services Center(LCSC) Trish Rooney shared images of <br /> extremely poor conditions at the organization's headquarters including fire hazards and damage <br /> throughout. Director Rooney explained that the Building Department did a walk through and issued <br /> correction notices,but LCSC is not confident that the owner of the space will fix each issue effectively. <br /> Because of reoccurring damage, LCSC has decided to move. <br /> Director Rooney gave an overview of what LCSC does for the vulnerable people in the community who <br /> need food and housing. She shared the benefits of interior design for clients and property value. The first <br /> floor could potentially be used for a conference room, one unit could be used for a shelter, and the second <br /> floor would be a revenue generating apartment. Currently LCSC pays $3,500 per month in rent. <br /> LCSC Board member Dan Cohn introduced himself and mentioned that LCSC has tripled its service lines <br /> by providing food to almost 4,000 people. Mr. Cohn shared the potential positive impact that the ABPA <br /> funds could make. <br /> LCSC Board member John Corlett spoke about the growing poverty rate among seniors and expressed <br /> that LCSC provides an important role in the community. He explained that this space would allow the <br /> community to feel supported, safe, and secure. <br /> Councilmember Rader asked about how the funding of$250,000 would play a role in renovating the <br /> space. Director Rooney mentioned that the funding would cover 50% of renovations and reduce the <br /> monthly rent payment. <br /> Councilmember Marx asked if LCSC contacted the City about the disrepair of their current space. <br /> Director Rooney expressed that the Building Department has attempted to follow up with the property <br /> owner. <br /> Director Rooney shared that the center's food service has increased by 22%. Most of these services take <br /> place in Lakewood,but there is a small portion of aid in Rocky River and Westlake. <br /> Councilmember Baker asked what LCSC has planned if they are not chosen to purchase the Youth <br /> Services building. Director Rooney explained that they will have to start looking for a space again after <br /> 3.5 years of looking. <br /> 3 <br />
