***NEW BUSINESS*** <br /> <br />5. Communication from Councilmembers Bullock, Marx & Shachner regarding Ohio Issue <br />1. (pg. 7) <br /> <br />Motion by President Litten, seconded by Vice President Kepple to receive and file the <br />communication. <br /> <br />Discussion: Councilmember Marx thanked Councilmember Bullock for his initiative on <br />Resolution 2023-36. <br /> <br />Councilmember Baker shared that August elections were outlawed because of low voter turnout. <br />He disapproved of the special August election and shared his support for Resolution 2023-36 to <br />remind residents to vote. <br /> <br />Vice President Kepple and Councilmember Rader shared their support for Resolution 2023-36 and <br />majority-rule in Ohio. Councilmember Rader expressed the importance of tradition and procedure <br />when making decisions and encouraged Lakewood residents to vote ÐnoÑ on Issue 1. <br /> <br />Councilmember Bullock shared the names of bipartisan groups that oppose the proposed <br />constitutional amendment. <br /> <br />Councilmember Marx encouraged residents to register to vote by mail for the special August <br />election. <br /> <br />On the motion: All in favor. Motion passed. <br /> <br />*** <br />6. RESOLUTION 2023-36 - A RESOLUTION to take effect immediately provided it <br />receives the vote of at least two thirds of the members of Council, or otherwise to take <br />effect at the earliest period allowed by law, urging Lakewood residents to protect <br />th <br />democracy and vote No on Issue 1 at the August 8 special election. (pg. 8) <br /> <br />Motion by President Litten, seconded by Vice President Kepple to adopt Resolution 2023-36. All <br />in favor. Motion passed. Resolution 2023-36 adopted. <br /> <br />*** <br />7. Report from the ADA Transition Plan Task Force - Vice President Kepple. (pg. 10) <br /> <br />Motion by Vice President Kepple, seconded by President Litten to receive and file the <br />communication. All in favor. Motion passed. <br /> <br />*** <br />8.
