ORDINANCE 20-2023 - AN ORDINANCE to take effect immediately provided it <br />receives the affirmative vote of at least two thirds of the members of Council, or <br />otherwise to take effect and be in force after the earliest period allowed by law, <br />authorizing and directing the Director of Planning and Development or the Mayor to <br />enter into an agreement with a licensed real estate broker to market for sale various <br />st <br />real properties, pursuant to Section 155.07 of the Codified Ordinances. (1 <br /> read & <br />referred to HPD 9/18/23) (pg. 5) <br />President Litten made a motion to defer, seconded by Vice President Kepple. All in favor. <br />Motion passed. Ordinance 20-2023 deferred. <br /> <br />***NEWBUSINESS*** <br /> <br />6. Beautiful Home Awards presented by Keep Lakewood Beautiful. (pg. 7) <br /> <br />Melissa Meehan, Chairperson of Keep Lakewood Beautiful, spoke about the history of the <br />organization and recognized the board members in attendance. She then introduced Hannah <br />Gall to present the awards for the evening. <br /> <br />Hannah Gall provided an overview of the Beautiful Homes Program, which is an annual <br />program that invites community membersto nominate homes that demonstrate pride of <br />place. This year they received 69 nominations which recommended 54 unique properties. <br />One home per school district is selected, which results in 7 award winners. She displayed a <br />slideshow as she presented each nominee with their award. After allthe awards were <br />distributed, the Mayor and Council took a group picture with the recipients present. <br />President Litten made a motion to receive and file the presentation, motion seconded by Vice <br />President Kepple. All in favor. Motion passed. <br /> <br /> <br />7. Communication from Councilmember Marx regarding Animal Safety & Welfare <br />Advisory Board recommendation. (pg. 11) <br /> <br />There was discussion amongst council members regarding where to refer the communication. <br />Vice President Kepple suggested the Committee of the Whole since it crosses over multiple <br />interests. <br /> <br />President Litten made a motion to refer the communication to the Committee of the Whole, <br />seconded by Vice President Kepple. All in favor. Motion passed. <br /> <br />8. RESOLUTION 2023-45 - A RESOLUTION to oppose House Bill 245, which <br />intentionally seeks to suppress freedom of expression among the LGBTQIA+ <br />community and performance artists.
