Ms. Vlach-Lasher noted that a dedicated Operations Manager could be assigned to lead an <br />annual capital campaign to help support the facility and the position. <br />City Flag Design Initiative <br />Nathan Noll –1441 Lincoln Ave. <br />Mr. Noll advocated for the development of a robust process to design a city flag. He estimated <br />that a budget would be modest, but important to initiate and sustain a multi-month campaign. <br />Councilmember Rader expressed support for the proposal and included it as one of his budget <br />priorities. He spoke about how a community flag can enhance a sense of community and civic <br />pride. He presented a draft budgetof $4,000. <br />Councilmembers Marx and Shachner expressed support for the proposal. <br />Lakewood Park Tennis Courts <br />John McGeehan - 12700 Lake Ave <br />Kristine Gambrell – USPTA tennis professional <br />Mr. McGeehan & Ms. Gambrell requested that the city replace the three tennis courts at <br />Lakewood Park with new asphalt courts. The existing “flexcourt” surface is over 15 years old <br />and showing wear. <br /> <br />Ms. Gambrell noted that Lakewood used to be a popular destination for tennis tournaments. She <br />extolled the value of public courts. She encouraged the city to investigate grants from USTA. <br />Councilmember Bullock pointed to 5 ecomments in support of new tennis courts. He pointed out <br />that the city recently invested in a new court at Kauffman and asked for additional feedback on <br />whether clustering courts in one park or dispersing them throughout the city is preferred. <br />Councilmember Marx expressed support for the proposal. <br />Mayor George spoke to the City’s ongoing investments in parks and recreation. She noted that <br />Lakewood Park improvements are on the Capital Improvement schedule. She asked <br />councilmembers to consider contributing ARPA funds toward the project. <br /> <br />**CouncilmemberBudget Proposals** <br /> <br />Councilmember Kepple <br />Councilmember Kepple introduced and elaborated on the following budget priorities for 2024: <br /> Implement ADA Transition Plan Task Force Plan <br /> Hire an Animal Shelter Operations Manager <br /> Support for urban forestry initiatives and Climate Action Plan <br />o Increase private tree plantings <br />o Purchase electric vehicles <br /> Increase Wi-Fi in the parks and expand broadband <br /> Add protected bike lanes – potentially alongside the railroad tracks <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br /> <br />
