Ahmie Yeung, VictoriaAve – Ms. Yeung stated that she is the other co-chair of the ADA Task
Force and she wanted to share some simple things that cost very little that we are still missing
regarding accessibility. She pointed out that the closed captions were not showing on the Zoom
presentation, and that they help the hearing disabled as well as people with attention deficit
issues. She also said that there is insufficient handicap parking at City Hall and around town.
She said she has been pushing Lakewood Public Library to add more handicap parking, and they
recently reserved three spots for those with limited mobility. She said these are examples of
things that can be easily missed if you are not directly impacted. She said that making it easier
for people to report accessibility issues will also go a long way in helping to improve matters.
Chris Cown, 13231 Merl Ave - Ms. Cowen shared that she was also a part of the task force, and
as an Occupational Therapist part of her job is to ensure that everyone she works with gets to be
independent and do the things that mean the most to them. She said she was very happy to
participate in the task force and she would like to be able to see that everyone in the City can
enjoy the amenities and do the things they love in Lakewood.
Vice President Kepple shared that she had the privilege of being the Council Liaison to the ADA
Transition Plan Task force and she really appreciates all the work of the task force members and
is looking forward to implementing the plan.
Chairman Litten made a motion to recommend adoption of the resolution, seconded by Vice
President Kepple.
