<br />MINUTES <br />OF A MEETING OF <br />LAKEWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />AUDITORIUM <br />NOVEMBER 20, 2023 <br />Regular meeting of the Lakewood City Council called to order at 7:43 PM by President Litten <br />**** <br />Present: Councilmembers Marx, Shachner, Litten, Bullock, Rader, Baker <br />Also Present: Mayor George, Planning Director Leininger, Fire Chief Dunphy, Human Services <br />Director Berry, Public Works Director Gordon, Police Chief Fischer, Law Director Vargo, Finance <br />Director Rancatore, Human Services Director Dillinger, and Council Staff. <br />Motion made by President Litten to excuse the absence of Vice President Kepple, seconded by <br />Councilmember Baker. All in favor, motion passed. <br />**** <br />Motion by President Litten, seconded by Councilmember Bullock, to approve the minutes of the <br />November 6, 2023 General Meeting without the necessity of a reading. All in favor. Motion passed. <br />***OLD BUSINESS*** <br />1.RESOLUTION 2023-51 - A RESOLUTION to take effect immediately provided it <br />receives the affirmative vote of at least five (5) members of Council, or otherwise to take <br />effect and be in force after the earliest period allowed by law, adopting the City of <br />Lakewood ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan (SETP). (Referred to COW 10/16/23; <br />recommended for adoption 11/6/23) (pg. 1) <br />Motion made by President Litten, seconded by Bullock, to adopt Resolution 2023-51. <br />Tracy Greenberg, 1423 Lauderdale – Ms. Greenberg spoke asco-chair of the ADA Task Force <br />and thanked Council and the ADA Task Force members for their contributions toward completing <br />the plan. She stated that she hopes Lakewood’s creation of the self-assessment and transition plan <br />will serve as a template for other communities in Northern Ohio that have not caught up to the <br />federal law. She then read a quote by disability activist Judith Heuman and shared her hope that <br />Lakewood is the tipping point for the rest of Ohio and the Country. <br />Ahmie Yeung, 1620 Victoria Ave – Ms. Young spoke as co-chair of the ADA task Force and she <br />expressed gratitude for the energy and effort that went into the plan. She expressed gratitude to <br />the families of the task force members for their support of the work. She stated that the next <br />generation is counting on us to get this right, as demographics indicate a sizeable percentage of <br />them will also be disabled. She stressed that the work has just begun, and we need to make sure <br />we are listening to those impacted by this work by continuing to improve the process by which <br />issues are getting reported and acted upon. <br />1 <br /> <br />
