information through an active spreadsheet and would need to review it to provide accurate <br />details. <br />Councilman Baker also conveyed his desire for Council to be actively involved in sidewalk <br />planning, emphasizing the frequent calls from residents regarding sidewalk and pavement issues. <br />Additionally, Councilman Baker brought attention to a project initiated by the Cleveland <br />Metroparks, where volunteers actively participate in separating trash from recycling in parks. <br />Director Gordon expressed interest in exploring the viability of implementing a similar initiative <br />at Lakewood's parks. <br />*** <br />Planning Department Budget Presentation <br />Planning & Development Director Leininger provided an overview of the department’s <br />organizational chart. One new City Planner filled Assistant Director Baas’s position whenhe was <br />promoted. He then reviewed the core services for the department and reviewed the boards, <br />commissions, committees and task forces that the department provides staff support and <br />representation on. <br />Director Leininger then reviewed some of the following highlights for FY 2023 from the <br />Community Development Division: <br />Disbursed around 4.7 million in COVID-19 pandemic related assistance, which benefited <br />3,000 resident and 227 business. <br />Provided $342,500 in financial assistance for home improvement and rehabilitation <br />projects that benefited 36 units in Lakewood <br />Pledged $350,000 in HOME funds to help EDEN Housing create 5 units of affordable <br />rental housing. <br />Invested $140,000 (CDBG) in storefront renovations for 15 commercial facades. <br />Completed the Affordable Housing Scenario Planning Action Report in partnership with <br />the Institute of Land Policy and the Greater Ohio Policy Center. <br />Next, he provided some of the following FY 2023 highlights from the Planning & Development <br />Division: <br />Supported 137 (YTD) Board & Commission Applications <br />Assisted Public Works with the renovation of Foster Pool <br />Lakewood Park was awarded “Great Place in Ohio” by the Ohio Chapter of the American <br />Planning Association <br />Completed the ADA Transition Plan, the Climate Action Plan, the Lakewood <br />Community Health Needs Assessment and the Lakewood Action Plan <br />Transitioned Winterhust Ice Rink back to a city operated facility <br />Installed 19 radar signs and 5 speed tables <br />Adopted accessory dwelling (ADU) legislation to support the creation of additional <br />housing opportunities. <br />7 <br /> <br />
