Mayor George said that on behalf of the administration she wanted to thank President Litten for
his service to the City of Lakewood. She said she really appreciated his partnership and his spirit
of collaboration, and he will certainly be missed.
President Litten reflected on his time on Council. He shared that in the beginning he was nervous
about everything he said, but now he has finally learned to just be himself on the dais and things
will work out. He said he has had the luxury of retiring from multiple dream jobs at a young age,
and this is not different. He stated you will not see a laundry list of legislative achievements
through him as he has preferred to work in a collaborative nature with all his colleagues. He
added that the passing of the 21 and over legislation was important to him because his father died
of lung cancer. He then stated that a mantra he works by is that “perfect is the enemy of the
good,” and if we are too idealistic and not collaborative that is where things get stalled. He went
on to congratulate Cindy Strebig for taking over as Councilmember for Ward 3, Council staff for
their outstanding work, and each of his colleagues on Council for their unique contributions. He
thanked Mayor Geroge for her leadership, as well as her “all-star team” of Directors.

In closing, President Litten shared that when he was in the Bridge Builders leadership training in
2013, he was assigned to craft a vision for the next 5 – 6 years. He said that his vision was to
lead the most impactful non-profit organization that would have him, he wanted to give back to
his community in a meaningful way through something like City Council, and he wanted to do
those things in a way that would not impact his family life. He has realized through this work
that he needs to focus on the family part more. He is thankful for the opportunity to have served,
and he apologized for the times he wasn’t always able to be there. He thanked Vice President
Kepple for always being such a thoughtful co-leader, and he said he couldn’t have done it
without her helpful leadership as well.

On the motion: All in favor, motion passed.

28.
