Councilman Bullock agreed with Councilman Baker, noting that Council has historically been <br />involved in transactions related to commercial redevelopment. He underscored the precedent for <br />such involvement. Planning Director Leininger explained that the handling of commercial <br />properties typically involves a committee, which includes representation from Council, <br />particularly the ward representative where the property is located. <br /> <br />President Kepple mentioned the possibility of allocatingone of the properties for use by Cove <br />Community Center. <br />Motion by President Kepple, seconded by Vice President Shachner, to receive and file the <br />communication. ORDINANCE 05-2024 -AN ORDINANCE to take effect immediately provided it receives <br />the affirmative vote of at least two thirds of the members of Council, or otherwise to take effect <br />and be in force after the earliest period allowed by law, authorizing and directing the Director <br />of Planning and Development or the Mayor to enter into an agreement with a licensed real <br />estate broker to market for sale various real properties, pursuant to Section 155.07 of the <br />Codified Ordinances. (pg. 66) <br /> <br />Motion by President Kepple, seconded by Vice President Shachner, to refer Ordinance 05-2024 to <br />the Housing, Planning, and Development Committee. <br /> <br />Public Comment: Donn Heckelmoser, Giel Ave. – Mr. Heckelmoser introduced himself as the <br />President and CEO of Barton Communities, a local owner, manager, and developer of affordable <br />housing. Mr. Heckelmoser advocated for the former Lawther Center property to be turned into an <br />affordable housing property. He emphasized that this property is a great opportunity for the City <br />and affirmed that Barton Communities is looking forward to working with the City on this <br />affordable housing opportunity. <br /> <br />On the motion: All in favor.
