ORDINANCE NOo 56-72 BY: Messrs. Brockman, Graber, <br /> Kelley, Magnotto~ McBride, <br /> Usher, Wendling <br /> AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE to amend paragraphs (a) and (b) of Section <br />769.08 of the Business Regulation Code of the Codified Ordinances of the City <br />of Lakewood relating to taxicab fare rates in the City of Lakewood. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council has been advised that the City of Cleveland and <br />other areas of the county have adopted legislation to permit an increase in <br />taxicab fare rates in said.areas, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council deems it to be in the best interests of the <br />City and its residents that taxicab fare rates be reasonably comparable through- <br />out the entire area served by t~xicab companies, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this ordinance provides for the usual daily operation'of a <br />mu. nicipal department and for the immediate preservation of the public safety <br />and welfare, now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That paragraphs (a) and (b) of Section 769.08 of the <br />Business Regulation Code of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood, <br />now reading as follows: . <br /> <br />769.08 PATES OF FARE <br /> <br />(a) <br /> <br />Metered Rates. All charges for' metered service of a taxicab <br />shall be in units of fractions of a mile which shall not be <br />greater than one-half nor less than one-fifth of a mile, and <br />the fare charged shall be either five cents (5~) or ten .cents <br />(106) per unit, except, however, that for the first unit or <br />flag drop an additional charge may be made. Alternatively, <br />the charges may be on an hourly or flat rate basis as provided <br />in subsection (b) hereof. <br /> <br />On the basis of unit charges, no charge for service by a taxicab <br />shall be made at a rate of fare less than fifteen cents (15~) <br />for the first mile and ten cents (106) for each succeeding mile. <br />A charge not exceeding ten cents (106) for each additional <br />passenger may be made, provided that the total of the basic <br />taximeter fare charged plus the charge for extra passengers <br />does not exceed the maximum rate of fare permitted above. <br /> <br />For waiting time, as hereinafter defined, charges may be made <br />at the rate of not less than two dollars and ten cents ($2.10) <br />nor more than four dollars and twenty cents ($4.20) per hour. <br />Waiting time shall be deemed to include the time when the <br />taxicab is not in motion, beginning at the place of arrival to <br />which it has been called, or the time consumed while standing <br />at the direction of the passenger. However, no charge shall be <br />made for time lost because of the inefficiency of the taxicab <br />or its operator, or for time consumed by premature response <br />to the ~assenger's order. <br /> <br /> <br />
