ORDINANCE NO. 78-81 By: Brown, Chinnock, Gallagher, <br /> Graham, McBride, Salmon, <br /> Wenlding <br /> <br /> An emergency ordinance to provide for the submission to the <br />electorate of an amendmen~ to Article XX, Section 1 of the Amended <br />Charter of the City of Lakewood, pertaining to the composition of the <br />Board of Trustees of the Lakewood Hospital. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, an emergency exists in that this proposed Charter <br />amendment is to be presented to the electorate of the City of Lakewood <br />at the general election to be held on November 3, 1981; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, for the foregoing reason, this ordinance constitutes <br />an emergency measure providing for the immediate preservation of the <br />public health, safety and welfare: now, therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE <br />OF OHIO, ~O-THIRDS OF ALL MEMBERS ELECTED THERETO CONCURRING: <br /> <br /> Section 1, That the question of the amendment to Article XX, <br />Section 1 of the Amended Charter of the City of Lakewood, so that as <br />amended the same shall be and read as follows: <br /> <br />ARTICLE XX. LAKEWOOD HOSPITAL. <br /> <br />SECTION 1. ESTABLISHMENT; BOARD OF TRUSTEES. <br /> <br /> The Council of the City of Lakewood shall have the power <br />by ordinance to establish a municipal hospital and for such <br />purpose may, in accordance with the general law, issue and <br />sell bonds in such amounts as may be necessary for the prccur- <br />ing of the necessary real estate and the erection, furnishing, <br />equipping and maintaining said hospital or for the purpose and <br />acquisition of any existing hospital and its furnishings and <br />equipment. Any such hospital shall be operated, controlled <br />and managed by a Board of Trustees consisting of eighteen <br />members, including the Mayor, who shall serve as President of <br />the Board, the Commissioner of Health, and the member of <br />Council who serves as Chairman of the Council's Hospital <br />Committee. The additional fifteen Trustees shall be appointed <br />by the Mayor with the approval of Council. No fewer than <br />eight of such additional Trustees shall be resident electors <br />of the City of Lakewood. Members of the Board of Trustees <br />shall receive no compensation for their services as members of <br />the Board. <br /> <br />(Upon adoption of this amended Section, the existing Article <br />XX, Section 1 of the Amended Charter of the City of Lakewood <br />shall be repealed. <br /> <br />be submitted to a vote of the qualified electors of the City at the <br />general election to be held on Tuesday, the 3rd day of November, 1981 at <br /> <br /> <br />
