'87-05 PLACED <br />ON 1ST READING & REFERRED TO THE RULES & ORDINANCES <br />COMMITTEE 119/05, 2NDREADING 10/3/05). <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO: 87-0S <br /> <br />BY: :t\~ftd:o¡;~Dfiftnj;0~ II l¡.~¡:¡:,: <br />FitzGerald~ Madigan~ Seelie. <br /> <br />An Ordinance creating a Lakewood Community Relations Advisory <br />Commission <br /> <br />An Ordinance of the City of Lakewood, Ohio, creating a Lakewood Community <br />Reiations Advisory Commission and providing operating procedures and <br />stating the powers of the Commission. <br /> <br />Bé it enacted and ordained by the City Council of Lakewood, Ohio and it is <br />hereby enacted and ordained by the authority of the same, as foilows: <br /> <br />Section 1. ESTABLISHMENT; PURPOSE. <br /> <br />The lakewood Community Relations Advisory Commission is hereby <br />estabiished to serve in an advisory capacity for the purpose of educating, <br />informing and making recommendations to City officials, departments, <br />boards and commissions on matters relating to community relations within <br />the City of ~akewood in an effort to advance: <br /> <br />· Rescect for diversity: acknowledge we live in a dynamic community <br />with an ever-changing variety of group and individual experiences, and <br />affirm values derived from the understanding of our differences <br />(whether based on socio-economic class, culture, religion, race, <br />ethnicity, age, gender, or sexua! orientation). <br />· Bonds of mutualitv: recognize the interdependence of our different <br />interests as we, work toward serving the còmmon good, and ensure <br />community relations have substantive meaning by açknowledging, as <br />Martin Luther King Jr. stated, "Whatever affects one directly affects all <br />indirectly." <br />· Eauitv: affirm our commitment to social justice, and assure all groups <br />and individuals have the opportunity to participate fuily in civic affairs <br />with equal access to employment, community resources, and decision,.. <br />making processes. <br /> <br />Section 2. MEMBERSHIP. <br /> <br />The Lakewood Community Reiations Advisory Commission shail be <br />composed of thirteen (13) residents that broadiy represent the sociai, <br />economic, and cultural interests of Lakewood, Ohio, <br /> <br />Section 3. TERMS. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Commission members shaii be appointed in accordance with the foliowing: <br /> <br />3.01 AIi commission members shall be appointed by City Council (7 <br />appointees) and the Mayor (6 appointees). Each member of City Councli <br />shali appoint one (1) member to the Lakewood Community Relations <br />Advisory Commission. <br /> <br />3.02 Commission members' terms of office shali expire on the first Monday in <br />January foliowing the last year of their term of office. <br /> <br />3.03 Duly appointed commission members shali serve a term of three (3) <br />years, except that initial appointments shail be so staggered that the terms <br />of approximateiy one-third of the membership shali expire each year. <br /> <br />3.04 Whenever possible, one member sha!1 also be a member of the <br />Lakewood Board of Education. <br />
