SECOND READIN' <br />6/19/06. <br />BY: Antonio~ Butler, Dever, Madigan, Seelie <br /> <br />AN o.RDINANCE to take effect irrunediately provided it receives the affinnative <br />vote of at least five (5) members elected to Council otherwise, it sball take effect and be <br />in force after the earliest period allowed by law, amending o.rdinance Nö. 117-05, <br />adopted January 17, 2006 to amend Cbapter 915, Water Rates, of the Codified <br />Ordinances of the City of Lake wood for the purpose of increasing water rates, decrease <br />the water customer service charge and to decrease the rate for those who qualify for the <br />homestead exemption. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, sufficient revenues are required to recover costs budgeted for the operations of the <br />Water Distribution System, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, sufficient dollars are required to meet scheduled debt service costs, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS; sufficient dollars are required to replace and repair existing aged waterlines, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in order to offset the increases in the purchases water from the City of Cleveland to <br />the City as well as the continuing general increases in the cost of operations, it is necessary for the City <br />to increase the ratës charged to its customers; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, extending a reduction for water rates to persons qualifying for Homestead <br />exemption and decreasing the customer service charge will not greatly effect revenues; Now therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE Co.UNCIL o.F THE CITY o.F LAIĆWo.o.D, <br />o.HIo.: <br /> <br />Section 1. That Chapter 915; Water Rates, of the Codified o.rdinances of the <br />City of Lakewood currently reading as follows: <br /> <br />915.01 ESTABLISHMENT OF RATES. <br /> <br />The Director of Public Works is hereby authorized and directed to <br />establish water rates charged monthly by the Lakewood Division of Water and <br />Wastewater Collections as follows: <br /> <br />(a) Effective January I, 2006, all water used during each one month billing <br />period shall cost not more than three and eighty-five hnndredths dollars ($3.85) <br />per one hundred cubic feet of water" <br /> <br />(b) Effective January 1,2007, all water used during each one month billing <br />period shall cost not more than four and eight hnndredths dollars ($4.08) per one <br />hnndred cubic feet. <br /> <br />(è) Effective January I, 2008, all water used dming each one month billing <br />period shall cost not more than four and thirty-one hnndredths dollars ($4.31) per <br />one hundred cubic feet. <br /> <br />915.02 CUSTOMER SERVICE CHARGE. <br /> <br />There is hereby established a monthly water-customer service charge to be <br />charged by the Lakewood Division of Water and Wastewater Collection as <br />follows: <br /> <br />(b) Effective January I, 2006, the monthly customer service charge shall <br />be $1.50 <br /> <br />(c) Effective January 1,2007, and thereafter, the monthly customer service <br />charge will be $0 <br /> <br />l <br />
