PLEASE SUBSTITUTE FOR ORDINANCE 74-08 <br />ORDINANCE NO. 74-08 gy; Bullock, Butler, Dever, <br />Powers, Summers. <br />AN ORDINANCE to create a new Chapter 146, Animal Safety and Welfare <br />Advisory Board, to curb animal abuse, improve animal welfare and make <br />recommendations regarding policies and procedures relative to animal control and safety <br />within the City of Lakewood. <br />WHEREAS, An Animal Safety and Welfare Advisory Board would support City <br />enforcement with expanded expertise, resources, and community reach; now, therefore, <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO: <br />Section 1. That new Chapter 146, Animal Safety and Welfare Advisory <br />Board is hereby established to read as follows: <br />Establishment; Purpose. <br />The Lakewood Animal Safety and Welfare Advisory Board is hereby established to serve ` <br />in an advisory capacity for the purpose general animal issues, assist in public education <br />and community outreach to owners of animals for the detection of animal safety and <br />abuse problems, update and improve written educational materials and coordinate and <br />refer animal owners to education classes. <br />142.02 Membership. <br />The Lakewood Animal Safety and Welfare Advisory Board shall be composed of seven <br />members. One member shall be a member of Council and one member shall be the <br />Director of Public Safety or his or her designee. The remaining five members shall be <br />residents of the City of Lakewood with some area of expertise in animal behavior, animal <br />safety or other experience that would bring diversity to the membership of the Board. <br />142.03 Terms. <br />Board members shall serve a term of two years and receive no compensation for service. <br />Council shall initially appoint two members to the Board for two year terms and one <br />member to the board for a one year term.
