MINUTES <br /> OF THE <br /> SPECIAL MEETING <br /> OF <br /> LAKEWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br /> AUDITORIUM <br /> June 27, 2022 <br /> 8:00 P.M. <br /> Regular Meeting of the Lakewood City Council called to order at 8:25 PM by President Litten <br /> Present: Kyle Baker, Thomas R. Bullock III, Sarah Kepple (virtual), John Litten, Cindy Marx, <br /> Tristan Rader, Jason Shachner <br /> Also Present: Mayor Meghan George, Deputy Clerk Lascu & Clerk Bach, members of the public <br /> 1. RESOLUTION 2022-28 - A RESOLUTION to take effect immediately provided it <br /> receives the vote of at least two thirds of the members of Council, or otherwise to take <br /> effect at the earliest period allowed by law, to call on the Ohio Legislature and Congress <br /> to act to protect abortion rights in the wake of the Supreme Court's reversal of Roe v. <br /> Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. <br /> Councilmember Kepple introduced Resolution 2022-28. She stated that the Supreme Court's <br /> decision to overturn Roe v. Wade attacks the privacy rights for everyone and interferes with the <br /> deeply personal decision to have a child. She explained that the resolution calls on Lakewood's <br /> congressional and state representatives to act and codify reproductive rights. <br /> Councilmember Rader expressed anger at the Supreme Court decision and stated that abortion <br /> should be a decision between a person and their doctor. He emphasized that he wanted to call the <br /> meeting to call on state and federal officials to act and to show support and solidarity with those <br /> residents who are affected by the ruling. <br /> Motion by Councilmember Rader, seconded by Councilmember Kepple to adopt Resolution <br /> 2022-28. <br /> Discussion: <br /> Councilmember Shachner stated that the unanimous support of this resolution is a true reflection <br /> of the will of the people of Lakewood. He expressed support for the resolution and discussed <br /> additional steps that he will propose to ensure that Lakewood tax dollars do not fund perverse <br /> interests. <br /> 1 <br />
