<br />MINUTES OF HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES COMMITTEE <br />February 27, 2023 <br />AUDITORIUM <br />Present: Councilmembers Kepple (Chair), Marx, and Rader <br />Also Present: Councilmember Baker, Assistant Director of Planning David Baas, Planning <br />Director Leininger, members of the public and Clerk Bach <br /> <br />Call to order: 7:06 p.m. <br /> <br />Approval of the minutes of the Health & Human Services Committee held January <br />23, 2023. <br /> <br />A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of the Health & Human Services <br />Committee held January 23, 2023. All members voted in favor. Motion passed. Minutes <br />approved. <br /> <br />Communication from Planning Director Leininger and Assistant Director Baas <br />regarding Community-focused Health Needs Assessment (referred to HHS 09/19/22) <br /> <br />A motion was made and seconded to receive and file the communication. All members voted in <br />favor. Motion passed. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION 2023-09 - A RESOLUTION to take effect immediately provided it <br />receives the vote of at least two thirds of the members of Council, or otherwise to take <br />effect at the earliest period allowed by law, establishing the Community Health Needs <br />Standing Committee to support the development and implementation of actions <br />related to identified health needs as well as the consideration of future opportunities <br />for community partnerships, programming, and other initiatives to build and sustain <br />a culture of health action in Lakewood. (referred to HHS 2/21/23) <br /> <br />Assistant Director Baas introduced the resolution. He spoke of the need to formalize a permanent <br />standing committee to continue the work of the Community Health Needs initiative and <br />transform it into a long-term effort. Mr. Baas described previous initiatives on community health <br />in which the city was involved dating back to the mid-2000s. He described the standing <br />committee as a necessary step to ensure that the recommendations from the Community Health <br />needs Assessment (CHNA), does not “sit on a shelf.” He spoke to the potential of a standing <br />committee to successfully capitalize on the relationships formed during the CHNA process and <br />to build and sustain a culture of health and wellness in the community. <br /> <br />Mr. Baas explained that the structure of the proposed Standing Committee is similar to that of <br />other city boards, commissions, and task forces. He briefly described each section of the <br />proposed resolution. <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br />
