RESOLUTION N0. 82- 76 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor and Couricil as a Whole <br />A RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION TO <br />MARTIN A. JANTS, RETIRING DIRECTOR <br />OF THE OHIO COMMISSION ON AGING. <br />WHEREAS, MARTIN A. JANIS has beeri a meniber of the Administration <br />of Governor James A. Rhodes since 1962; and <br />WHEREAS, MARTIN A. JANTS was Director of the Ohio Department <br />of Mental Hygiene and Correction from 1963 through 1970; and <br />WHEREAS, MARTIN A. JANTS, as JDirector of the Ohio Department <br />of Mental Hygiene and Correction was instrumerital in the passage of <br />the Community Mental Health Act for the developmerit of Community <br />Mental Health and Mental Retardation Programs in the State of Ohio; and <br />WHEREAS, MARTZN A. JANIS, as Director of the Ohio Department <br />of Mental Hygierie and Correction established severi (7) geriatric <br />centers at the Departmerit`s merital hospitals; and <br />WHEREAS, MARTIN A. JANIS, in 1965, established the Division <br />of Administration on Aging within the Oh'io Departmerit of Mental <br />Hygiene and Correction wh'ich remained as the state agency on aging <br />until November, 1973 when the current Ohio Commission on Aging was <br />created by the General Assembly; and <br />UnIEREAS, MARTfiN A. JANIS 1ed in the establishment of Worley <br />Terrace and Glendale Terrace, two golderi age villages which are the <br />only two congregate housing units for the'elderly in the nation and <br />which have beeri recognized by the United States Special Senate Committee <br />on Aging in 1975 as model facilities for 1ow income elderly persons; and <br />WHEREAS, MARTIN A. JANIS has been Director of the Ohio Commission <br />on Aging since 1975 and has beeri responsible for programs for the <br />elderly that are too numerous to men:tion but wh°ich include the establish- <br />ment in 1968 of the Annual Governors Conference on Aging and the <br />establishment of the Golden Bv.ckeye Card program; and <br />WHEREAS, MARTIN A. JANIS, was, in January, 1977 asked by then <br />Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare, Casper Tnleinberger, to <br />serve on the Advisory Council of the National Institute on Aging; and <br />WHEREAS, in 1979 Governor James A. Rhodes named the new 3 million <br />dollar Senior Citizeris' Ceriter at the Oh'io State Fairgrounds the <br />Martin Janis Senior Ceriter; and <br />WHEREAS, MARTIN A. JANTS should not be allowed to leave the <br />service of the people of the State of Ohio without the appreciation <br />wh'ich he rightfully deserves; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCZL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT:
